SODo you have a complicated relationship with the scale?
Do you find that you do great with your health behaviors UNTIL you get on the scale and you don’t like the number you see?
You’re not alone.
While it is true that the scale merely tells you your relationship with gravity and that self-monitoring in general is linked to better health outcomes,
it’s also true that the scale weight in particular can be very triggering for some individuals and lead them to self-sabotage.
I don’t believe that the scale weight is inherently pointless.
But when it comes to tracking data, it’s worth considering whether the data you’re tracking is a) actually relevant towards your goals, and b) helping or harming you.
Ultimately, yes, the goal is to come to a place where you can take the emotion out of stepping on the scale. For many, it‘s easier said than done.
So for the time being, it might not be a bad idea to stay off the scale. So you can stay focused on your health behaviors and stay out of your own way.
