Still, the media often portrays them in a very negative light when something bad happens. Those instances are tragic of course but it’s worth mentioning how rare it is. YA, I know I post this shot every year & you’re all sick of it, but I don’t give AF… because we all breathe oxygen, and the majority of it comes from our Oceans… which are protected & balanced by SHARKS… But, the truth is, without humans on their side, sharks have no chance of survival. And without sharks, our Oceans & humankind will not survive. Please continue to speak up & fight for SHARKS, because they truly need our help… #abc4explore #coexistence 🫶🦈🫶 . . ‼️SHORTFIN MAKO SHARK‼️I filmed off the coast of New Zealand still alive despite its jaw brutally ripped out & horrifically disfigured by Humankind… It seems to me the “smarter” and more “advanced” humans have become, the less & less regard we have for any other forms of life. Collectively we have lost our sense of compassion & connectivity to nature, functioning purely as insatiable predators, striving to conquer, kill & consume everything in our path. A few seconds of what our shark dives look like! We are constantly looking all around trying to make sure we are aware of where all of the sharks are at any given time. There can sometimes be more than 10 Tiger sharks so this isn’t an easy task and at times they can still sneak up on us! It’s important we not only watch our own backs but each others as well! We are a little shark obsessed so we’ll often be out there for an entire day and this is just about 5 seconds slowed down of that many hours dive so you can also imagine how exhausting it can be to be checking your surroundings non stop! If you swim with sharks I can’t express enough how seeing them & being aware of them is so incredibly important so keep that head on a swivel! Please dive with trained professionals! 🦈💙 #sharkdiver #ocean #sharkdiving #tigershark #savesharks

If you ever see a shark in the ocean, the worst thing you could do would be to run away from it. Running from a shark triggers a predatory response in them and makes them feel like you are prey. If you stand your ground, make eye contact, and remain calm, this will drastically reduce your chances of continuing to get approached by the shark. If you absolutely needed to as a last resort if the shark is too close, you can firmly place your hand on top of the shark’s head and guide them away from you. One of the most important things to remember if you ever see a shark, is to remain calm and confident. Many people have the first instinct to want to run away from the shark. But that is the OPPOSITE of what you should do. When you swim away like this it tells the shark that you are an injured prey item, or something that is an easier target. And this will often cause them to have more interest in you. Instead, hold your ground face the shark, and make eye contact. In most cases simply looking at the shark is all you will have to do to deter it. If the shark is confident and still approaches, use your fins as a barrier or if you absolutely need to push firmly down on the top of their head to guide them away from you. Of course shark behavior is very nuanced and in some instances this will not work, but a majority of the time it will at the very least decrease your chances for a negative encounter🦈 . *This is done as a demonstration and please do not attempt, and do not dive with sharks without a professional guide* . . . . . . #shark #sharks #sharkbite #sharkattack #scary #seamonster #seacreature #jaws #sharkweek #sharkfacts #tigershark #sharkdiver #sharkdiving #ocean #oceanlife #sharkdive #sharkconservation #savesharks
