Happy equinox—the real new year! This video completely changed my life. About a year ago, I posted this clip featuring my bestie smelling freshly blossomed daffodils, using my brand-new PlantWave device (link in bio to get yours). The post started generating MILLIONS of views!!! As you can see from my page, the rest is history. Now I’m a month away from launching my new YouTube channel featuring plant sounds (link in bio to join the waitlist). This just goes to show that following your heart and taking consistent action pays off. For my entire life—and I mean my entire life—I’ve been working to spread the message of connectedness between all living beings: animals, plants, and humans. I’ve done it through my music as a recording and touring musician, my photography, my music videos, and my writing. I guess you could say this has been my soul’s journey: to bring this message to the masses. These videos have truly allowed me to share this message in the way I always knew I was meant to. It’s clear that the world is hungry for these deep reminders of our connection and belonging to the natural world. To mark the equinox, I wanted to reshare this raw, authentic, wonderfully surprising video. The equinox is the real new year because it marks the start of spring, when daylight increases and new growth begins. The year doesn’t start in January And neither should you. We try not to celebrate the “new year” in January at all. Up here in the North, nature is still asleep. The insects aren’t rushing. The trees aren’t growing. Nothing is scrambling back to full productivity. So who decided we should reinvent ourselves right now? That idea comes from the Gregorian calendar, not the land. A system that pulls us out of rhythm with nature and ensures we stay disconnected. That disconnect feeds profit. How else do you start your new workout routine without a new smart watch, app, plan, supplement? It sets you up to fail. And when you do, the cycle of dependence begins again. Who even is Gregory anyway? For most of human history, the “real new year” arrived in spring. As the soil warmed, the light returned, and balance was restored. New life was welcomed at the Spring Equinox. We can dream of that rebirth now. But this season is for rest without guilt. For reflection. 🌱 The Spring Equinox 🌱 The Spring Equinox is an ancient festival that has been celebrated in various cultures for centuries and involves welcoming back the rebirth, renewal, and fertility of the land. The Spring Equinox is the second of the spring festivals, a time where we can really notice the quickening of the natural world. The sun rises at its most easterly position and sets at its most westerly during the Equinox, creating an equal balance of day and night. Some view this as a balance of masculine and feminine, important symbols during the stirrings of fertility in nature. Fertility rituals and rites played a large role in this festival, with symbols such as hares, eggs, and seeds used in ceremony and celebration. The Hare is the sacred animal of the Spring Equinox as it is an animal strongly linked to fertility and spring goddesses. It is easy to see how ancient symbols for the spring became absorbed into Christian traditions such as Easter, including the Easter bunny and the egg! Some things you can do to celebrate the Equinox include: 🌱 Lighting an outside fire or candles which symbolise the growing strength of the sun. 🌱 Creating a spring equinox altar - include spring flowers, eggs, images of hares etc, placing the altar somewhere sunlight can reach. 🌱 Create a ritual or a ceremony - give thanks to the gods and goddesses of nature and welcome them back to the land.
