To spare you the “expectation vs. reality” scene — here’s the truth:
These caves were carved by water in limestone cliffs. The rocks themselves are gray-white-yellow, but because the lake water is an unreal shade of blue and turquoise, its reflection paints the cave walls, turning them into a swirl of magical colors.
📌To see them like this, come around midday on a sunny day (!) — that’s when the water glows brightest and reflects perfectly inside the caves.
The best travel season is the Chilean summer (December–February), but we went in November — and just look at the magic we found! ✨
📍The caves are in Chilean Patagonia, near the border with Argentina. We stayed in the town of Puerto Río Tranquilo and rented kayaks with a local guide right on the spot.
