“Slow down to get faster.” Not sure where or when I heard this quote, but it stuck. I’m no endurance pro but one of the best things I ever did for my endurance training was learn about heart rate zones. If you want to get faster, most of your workouts should be zone 2 workouts (60-70% max HR) and then a zone 4 workout (80-90% max HR) once a week. ❌Don’t make these running mistakes!❌ 1️⃣ Running too close to the machine! You want to have a comfortable position roughly in the middle of the belt. Standing too close will cause you to strike your heel as you run 2️⃣Carrying the arms rather than using them! Our arms provide our momentum. Swing forwards and use them to make your running more efficient 3️⃣As we fatigue we have a tendency to arch our shoulders. Keep tall with an open chest! 4️⃣Over-striding! When we run on the treadmill we should aim to land with the ball of our feet under our hip line! If not, save this post for your next run. ▪️30min 6:00 // 10kph ▪️27min 5:24 // 11.1 kph ▪️25min 5:00 // 12.0kph ▪️20min 4:00 // 15.0kph ▪️18min 3:36 // 16.7kph ▪️15min 3:00 // 20 kph If you are looking to improve your 5k times, not every run needs to be fast. Build your baseline fitness through slower runs and try to incorporate some 800m and 400m intervals into your routine. I have been putting in some miles on my @technogym Myrun and starting to see the times drop! I always save a show that I’m really into for the treadmill only, so that I’m excited to get back on and back to the next episode! I started Love and Death on my run Sunday and was immediately hooked. As a child growing up in the 80s, I related to the church life, loved hearing the 70s music, and swore they took my childhood kitchen and put it on set!
