✊ It is TIME to END OLD GROWTH LOGGING - These forests are some of the most biodiverse and carbon-rich ecosystems on Earth, yet they are still being logged today. The NDP are treating BC like a resource colony, clear cutting old growth forest like there’s no tomorrow. This must end. The message from this movement has always been simple: protect what little remains. 📢 Tell the BC government to end old-growth logging now: Premier David Eby📧 premier@gov.bc.ca📞 250-387-1715

This is the most important moment to engage with urban forestry in Canada, says Christian Walli, BScF, veteran forestry specialist with decades of experience. As more people live in dense urban environments, access to green space becomes increasingly essential — not only for ecological resilience, but for everyday quality of life.

Reforestation looks a lot different today. 🌲 Thanks to new tech and expertise, over 95% of planted trees now survive their first year! Since 1987, BC’s licensed harvesters have been legally required to reforest — and they get results. About 80% of harvested areas are replanted, 20% regrow naturally, and nearly 100% of public land is fully reforested. Every year, BC plants ~218 million seedlings — that’s over 7.5 billion trees since the 1930s. Did you know that the first replanted forest was in Surrey's Green Timbers? 🌿 Responsible forestry equals: 🌲 Carbon sequestration 🌲 Climate regulation 🌲 Biodiversity conservation 🌲 Soil protection 🌲 Air quality improvement 🌲 Water quality enhancement 🌲 Disaster risk reduction 🌲 Employment opportunities 🌲 Future timber supply for various industries 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞: @forestryworksforbc

For Andy, a forester with Idaho Forest Group for 32 years, it’s about balance. Wildlife. Restoration. Economics. Aesthetics. By opening up crowded stands and protecting the best trees, managers create healthier forests and strong regeneration like larch. Active management means making thoughtful decisions that keep forests working and growing. Video: @manleyjobs

On the heels of the release of the reports and findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Tree Canada looked into how it could play a more serious role in advancing reconciliation by including Indigenous perspectives and needs within its existing programs. The planning and planting of green spaces provide many benefits that complement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, which create opportunities to build stronger relationships and support equitable access to the associated health and spiritual benefits and knowledge-sharing activities. On this video, Conservation Ecologist and Indigenous Engagement Specialist from Curve Lake First Nation, Gary Pritchard, shares a short, fresh take on on reconciliation.

Overstocked forests are not resilient forests. These Central Oregon stands are crowded with lodgepole and white fir that are vulnerable to wildfire, insects, and disease. Restoration thinning removes excess trees and leaves the healthiest behind. More sunlight. More water. Stronger growth. Stewardship timber sales help fund the work, support local mills, and create jobs.
