Vocês já devem ter visto o quanto falamos sobre a importância da terapia ABA no processo de desenvolvimento dos pequenos autistas. 💙 ABA, em inglês, Applied Behavior Analysis, é uma ciência baseada na análise do comportamento aplicado, cientificamente comprovada, como meio eficaz de trabalhar atrasos e prejuízos gerados pelo autismo. A partir de uma análise inicial do comportamento apresentado pela criança são utilizadas técnicas de interação, brincadeiras e estimulação com o objetivo de modificar ou incorporar novos comportamentos ao repertório. E a abordagem pode ocorrer de maneira mais estruturada ou a partir de técnicas naturalistas, dependendo do contexto apresentado, como eu explico melhor no vídeo de hoje! Using one's voice to take a stand is not easy. To go against the flow, the status quo, the loud voices. To say what others won't for fear of rejection, retaliation, or verbal assaults. Our world doesn't advance, we don't grow, and we cannot learn if we stay stagnant or comfortable or regurgitating that which is most familiar. We cannot live in constant fear. We cannot move about thinking we might make a mistake at any moment that will be scrutinized. We want to be free. We want to express ourselves. We want to connect, to learn, to grow. We need to remember there are lots of things that are not either/or, but there are shades of colors in the in-between. Falamos muito por aqui sobre intervenções baseadas na terapia ABA e estratégias naturalistas como meio de obter maior sucesso para trabalhar atrasos e prejuízos do autismo. E para entendermos a sua potencialidade, vale saber como ela é desenvolvida: ABA, em inglês, Applied Behavior Analysis, é uma ciência baseada na análise do comportamento aplicado da criança. A partir de uma análise inicial do comportamento apresentado pelo pequeno são utilizadas técnicas de interação, brincadeiras e estimulação com o objetivo de modificar ou incorporar novos comportamentos ao repertório. Esses novos comportamentos serão criados e reforçados positivamente para que a criança execute em seu dia a dia, de forma natural e tenha maior qualidade de vida. Para isso, os terapeutas elaboram programas comportamentais com metas, prazos e objetivos claros para a intervenção e acompanhamento do processo. As atividades são norteadas por estratégias naturalistas, ou seja, seguindo a liderança da criança. Isso significa que as terapias são desenvolvidas de forma gentil e acolhedora a partir dos interesses que o pequeno apresenta, respeitando o processo e as possibilidades de cada indivíduo. No cérebro da pessoa que recebe a terapia ABA, novas conexões neuronais são criadas e, a partir da repetição nos ambientes naturais e reforço positivo, um novo repertório de comportamentos é construído. What’s one easy way your dog trainer can tell how good your communication is with your dog?  Understanding subtle communication through stimulus fading not only enhances your connection with your dog, but also underscores the need for ethical standards in dog training - which we’ll address in a second… Early in dog training, we typically rely on exaggerated gestures and clear, unmistakable cues. Most of us teach our dogs to “lie down” by doing something like dramatically pointing to the floor, or luring them down with a treat.  As a dog starts to really understand a behavior, experienced trainers often instinctively shift to using subtler signals or cues, like a slight nod, a brief glance downward, or even a gentle shift in their posture. This process is known in behavior science as “stimulus fading,” which just means that you gradually reduce the prominence of a cue you’re giving, until your dog reliably responds to a more subtle, nuanced signal.  Stimulus fading originates from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a branch of operant conditioning frequently used in human therapy settings as well as with other animals.  It’s important to acknowledge that while ABA has provided valuable behavioral insights, its traditional applications - particularly in human contexts - often emphasize the extraction of a particular behavior over personal autonomy and emotional welfare of the individual who’s being taught. ⬇️continued in comments

It should be meaningful and useful in everyday life, not just something done at a table 🙋‍♀️Behavior is anything we do, not just challenging behaviors. For young children, behavior includes things like 👋waving, 👆pointing, reaching for items, 👥taking turns, 🙋asking for help, 🚂putting toys away, 📖sitting with a parent to read a book. And when we think about behavior in adults, we’re also changing behavior all the time, 🥤drinking more water, 🚶‍♂️getting more steps in, 📵putting our phone down earlier, 🙇‍♀️speaking more kindly to ourselves, 💸💸following a budget, 😴or going to bed earlier. 📈Analysis means looking at why a behavior is happening or why it might not be happening YET and then using strategies that help a person learn and feel successful gaining that skill. Some of those strategies include 🧰reinforcement, 🧰shaping skills in small steps, 🧰prompting, modeling, and using visuals, gestures, or verbal cues ABA is not a cure for autism. 🪜It’s a structured way of teaching skills often by breaking them down into smaller, learnable steps so a person can build independence, communication, and confidence.
