Linux plays an incredibly important part in the job of a cybersecurity professional. Specialized Linux distributions such as Kali Linux are used by cybersecurity professionals to perform in-depth penetration testing and vulnerability assessments, as well as provide forensic analysis after a security breach.
Moreover, Linux is the operating system used on most network devices and security appliances, including routers, firewalls, next-generation firewall (NGFW) devices, unified threat management (UTM) gateways, virtual private network (VPN) concentrators, intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion protection systems (IPS), security information and event management (SIEM) appliances, wireless access point (WAP) devices and more. Consequently, to collect security-related data from these devices or perform security hardening, you must first understand Linux.
Of course, on-premises and cloud-based Linux servers that host services and data will also be a focus of any cybersecurity professional. This is especially important today considering that most servers in the cloud run Linux, and that more and more companies are moving their data to the cloud.

NALinux is not a freaking OS.😲😱
Well, I have a lot of substantial statements to support that.
When someone comes up and says “I am running Linux OS in my system”, it usually means they are using Linux + GNU. The Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Redhat, etc are actually Linux +GNU distributions.
Linux is basically a kernel that acts as an interface between hardware and software components. One great example to prove Linux is not an OS would be “Android OS running Linux as its kernel”. Similarly, most smart devices like smart watches use Linux as their kernel.

Linus Torvalds’ın ünlü “Fuck you, NVIDIA!” çıkışı, Linux dünyasında yıllardır konuşulan bir olaydır. Bunun nedeni hem teknik hem de politik bir birikimin patlamasıydı.
Olay Ne Zaman ve Nerede Oldu?
2012 yılında Aalto Üniversitesi’nde düzenlenen bir öğrenci soru-cevap etkinliği sırasında yaşandı. Bir öğrenci, Linux üzerinde NVIDIA Optimus teknolojisinin düzgün çalışmamasından şikayet etti.
Linus Neden Bu Kadar Sinirlendi?
Torvalds’ın tepkisinin arkasında birkaç temel sebep vardı:
1. NVIDIA’nın Linux’a Kapalı Sürücülerle Yaklaşması
NVIDIA yıllarca:
Donanım belgelerini paylaşmadı
Açık kaynak topluluğuna destek vermedi
Sürücü geliştirmelerini kapalı tuttu
Bu durum Linux ekosistemindeki geliştiricilerin NVIDIA kartlarını desteklemekte zorlanmasına neden oluyordu.
2. Optimus Teknolojisinin Linux’ta Sorunlu Olması
O dönem NVIDIA'nın “Optimus” GPU değiştirme teknolojisi:
Linux’ta düzgün çalışmıyordu,
NVIDIA resmi destek vermiyordu,
Topluluk kendi başına çözmeye çalışıyordu (Bumblebee gibi).
3. Topluluğun Sürekli Şikayet Etmesi
Linux kullanıcıları Torvalds’a sürekli:
“NVIDIA driver neden bozuk?”
“Neden destek vermiyor?” gibi sorularla geliyordu.
Aslında sorun Torvalds’ta değil, NVIDIA’nın iş birliğini reddetmesindeydi. Linus bu uzun süre biriken gerilimi o soru sırasında dışa vurdu.

Linus öğrencinin sorusuna yanıt verdikten sonra kameralara dönüp:
“NVIDIA, fuck you!”
dedi ve kameraya orta parmak gösterdi.
Bu video daha sonra viral oldu.
Aslında Vermek İstediği Mesaj Ne?
Torvalds’ın hedefi:
Geliştiricilere zorluk çıkaran,
Açık kaynak ekosistemine katkı vermeyen,
Linux kullanıcılarını umursamayan bir şirket davranışına karşı tepkiydi.
Sonuçları Ne Oldu?
İlginç şekilde bu çıkış sonrası NVIDIA:
Linux sürücülerini iyileştirmeye başladı,
Optimus desteğini daha düzgün hâle getirdi,
Linux topluluğu ile ilişkilerini kısmen geliştirdi.
