This simple bedside test can reveal a major warning sign of heart failure. In this video, you’ll see a quick bedside check where gentle pressure is applied to the lower leg—and the indentation stays. This is known as pitting edema, and it’s more than just swelling. It can be an important clinical clue that the body is retaining fluid. When the heart isn’t pumping efficiently—especially in congestive heart failure (CHF)—fluid can back up into the tissues. The legs and ankles are common places for this to show up because they’re dependent areas where gravity pulls fluid down. Why it matters: • Persistent indentation often signals elevated venous pressure and fluid overload. • This may reflect reduced forward flow from the heart and increased pressure in the venous system. • It typically appears alongside other signs such as weight gain, shortness of breath, or visible vein distension. For clinicians, always pair this finding with a full cardiovascular assessment: checking bilateral pulses, evaluating skin temperature and color, and correlating with blood pressure and overall volume status. For patients, pitting edema is your body’s way of sending a message—don’t ignore persistent swelling, especially if it’s new or worsening. Understanding these small signs can lead to earlier diagnosis, safer care, and better outcomes. ❤️‍🩹 ✅Follow @drdavidabbasi for More Daily Medical Content & Health Tips! 🌴😷Schedule a consultation to see Dr. Abbasi as a patient in Delray Beach! This classic bedside test is called TROUSSEAU SIGN 🔹 Inflate the BP cuff 20 mmHg above systolic BP 🔹 Maintain inflation for 3 minutes If the patient develops carpal spasm with the characteristic “obstetrician’s hand” posture → Trousseau sign is positive 📌 Why does this happen? Low calcium increases neuromuscular excitability, leading to latent tetany. 📌 Common causes of hypocalcemia: • Hypoparathyroidism • Vitamin D deficiency • Chronic kidney disease • Acute pancreatitis • Massive blood transfusion A simple bedside clinical sign that can reveal hypocalcemia even before lab reports arrive.

This simple bedside test is commonly used to assess blood flow in the hand. By gently compressing the arteries and then releasing them, doctors observe how quickly normal skin color returns. A rapid return indicates healthy circulation, while a delayed response may suggest reduced blood flow or arterial issues. It’s quick, painless, and provides valuable insight into overall vascular health without the need for advanced equipment. This isn’t really about sleep. It’s about what your nervous system needs right now. The bed you chose felt right for a reason. 👇🏻 1️⃣ Perfectly made bed You cope by staying in control. Even when you’re overwhelmed, you keep everything “together” on the outside. You don’t relax easily — you rest only when things feel handled. Insight: Control keeps you safe, but it also keeps you tense. 2️⃣ Messy bed Your mind needs emotional release. You process stress by letting things spill instead of containing them. You’re not disorganised — you’re honest about how you feel. Insight: Expression helps you breathe. Just don’t drown in it. 3️⃣ Minimal structured bed You’re in a reset phase. You’ve stripped life down to what’s necessary because excess feels heavy right now. You’re not empty — you’re recalibrating. Insight: This is a pause, not the end. 4️⃣ Hotel-style bed You crave stability without emotional mess. Comfort matters — but only when it’s predictable. You function best when life feels orderly and contained. Insight: Structure supports you. Flexibility will free you. 5️⃣ Couch bed You avoid full rest. You stay half-available, half-guarded. Comfort matters to you — but fully committing to it feels unsafe. Insight: Real rest starts when you stop hovering. 6️⃣ Floor mattress You’re surviving, not settling. You’re adaptable, but tired of pretending this phase is permanent. You’re preparing for change — even if you haven’t named it yet. Insight: Survival kept you alive. It’s not where you stay. Save this if it felt uncomfortably accurate. 💬 Comment the number you chose ❤️ Follow @andrewprime for daily psychology tests #personalitytest #psychologyfacts #selfawareness #humanbehavior nervous system

@norcet.aspirants68
The Romberg test is a neurological bedside exam that assesses balance, proprioception (body position sense), and vestibular function. A patient stands with feet together and eyes open, then closes their eyes for 30–60 seconds; a positive test—indicating sensory ataxia, such as from Vitamin B12 deficiency or neuropathy—is marked by increased swaying or falling when eyes are closed.  Key Details and Procedure   Purpose: The test evaluates the ability to maintain stability by eliminating visual cues, forcing reliance on proprioception and vestibular input. Procedure: The patient stands with feet together, arms at sides (or crossed), and eyes open to establish a baseline for 30 seconds. The patient closes their eyes for another 30–60 seconds. A clinician should stand nearby to ensure safety. Positive Result (Romberg's Sign): The patient is stable with eyes open but falls or sways significantly upon closing their eyes. Clinical Significance: A positive test indicates a deficit in the dorsal column of the spinal cord (proprioception) or peripheral neuropathy. Negative Result: If the patient is unstable with eyes open, this indicates a cerebellar or vestibular disorder rather than a dorsal column issue.  #clinicalskills #everoneviewersfollowers #trandingreels #medicalstudent #nursing
