Which is your favorite? 🐚 For more tutorials & to find 100% organic cotton & botanically dyed scarves - check out @totem.ofearth Most of my bandanas are vintage, made of cotton & silk. Unless an item is made with Peace Silk/Ahimsa Silk/ a version of silk derived from unharmed silkworms (allowing them to emerge from their cocoon and harvesting their silk after, versus boiling them alive) - I go vintage, as there are no new worms harmed in the making. Etsy is a great place to find vintage & new eco-consciously made scarves/bandanas. So is your local estate sale with vintage clothes.

🌻 The Secret Life of Sunflower “Seeds” Sunflowers aren’t just beautiful—they’re full of surprising science. 🌀 Mathematical Masterpieces The seeds grow in Fibonacci spirals, a natural pattern that allows the flower to pack thousands of seeds with maximum efficiency. 🌰 Not Actually Seeds Botanically, what we call a sunflower “seed” is a fruit called a cypsela. The edible part inside the shell is the real seed. 🚀 Space Travelers Sunflowers have even been grown on the ****, proving plants can develop in microgravity—though their stems become thinner and weaker. 🔢 Thousands per Flower One sunflower head can produce 1,000–2,000 seeds. ☢️ Natural Clean-Up Crew Sunflowers can absorb toxins like lead and uranium from soil. They were used in environmental cleanup after the **** and the ****. Nature isn’t just beautiful—it’s incredibly intelligent. #Sunflower #NatureFacts #ScienceExplained #PlantScience #DidYouKnow

The "Seed" Secret: Fun & Weird Facts👇 Mathematical Masterpieces: The seeds are arranged in a perfect Fibonacci sequence- interconnecting spirals that provide the most efficient packing possible within the flower head. Technically Not Seeds: Botanically speaking, a sunflower "seed" is actually a fruit called a cypsela; the edible part inside the shell is the true seed (or kernel). Space Travelers: Sunflower seeds have been to the International Space Station; they grew and bloomed in zero gravity, though their stems became quite spindly. Thousands per Head: A single sunflower head can produce between 1,000 and 2,000 individual seeds. Nuclear Cleaners: Sunflowers are "hyperaccumulators" that can pull toxins like lead, arsenic, and uranium from the soil. 🥦🌼 BROCCOLI IS ACTUALLY A FLOWER — JUST HARVESTED EARLY What we call broccoli isn’t a vegetable in the usual sense — it’s a cluster of immature flower buds. Botanically, broccoli belongs to the Brassica oleracea family, the same species as cabbage, cauliflower, and kale. Those tight green “trees” are unopened flower buds. Farmers harvest broccoli before blooming because once the flowers open, the texture becomes fibrous and the taste turns bitter. If you leave broccoli in the ground long enough, something surprising happens: the green head bursts into bright yellow flowers, almost identical to mustard blossoms. That’s broccoli completing its natural life cycle. From a nutrition science perspective, this early-harvest stage is powerful. The unopened buds are packed with sulforaphane, a compound studied for its role in activating detox enzymes, reducing inflammation, and supporting cellular repair. Once broccoli flowers, sulforaphane levels drop. So when you eat broccoli, you’re not eating leaves or stems — you’re eating potential flowers frozen in time, harvested at their most nutrient-dense moment. Nature didn’t design broccoli to stay green forever. We just learned when to pick it.

This verse is a Sanskrit subhāṣita, a moral poem whose authorship is unknown, like many verses that survived through oral tradition. 🪷 Botanically, the lotus is rich in nectar and fragrance, drawing bees naturally, while the hibiscus, though brilliantly red and striking, offers little nectar in comparison. 🌺Symbolically, the lotus can stand for depth, essence, and quiet abundance; the hibiscus for surface beauty and immediate attraction. The bee becomes us, choosing between what dazzles and what truly nourishes. Is it misdirected love? Or simply a reflection of what we choose in life; drawn to colour, or to substance? Honey never expires… Its low moisture and natural antibacterial properties prevent spoilage, which is why ancient honey is still edible. Carrots were originally purple… Modern orange carrots were selectively bred later, showing how food has been altered over time. Strawberries are not berries… Botanically, they don’t meet the criteria, while bananas and avocados surprisingly do. One pomegranate… Contains hundreds of juice-filled seeds, making it extremely nutrient-dense. Cashews grow outside the fruit… The nut develops externally, which is rare compared to most seeds. Apples are 25% air… That air content is exactly why apples float in water. Beetroot turns urine pink… A harmless condition called beeturia that depends on your body’s absorption. Pineapple digests you back… Bromelain breaks down proteins, which can slightly affect tissues in your mouth. Coffee is made from a fruit… The “bean” is actually a seed from a cherry-like fruit. One avocado tree… Can produce large quantities of fruit in a single season under ideal conditions. Nutmeg in high doses… Has psychoactive effects and can be toxic—definitely not something to experiment with. Figs contain wasps… They are pollinated internally, but the wasp is broken down completely before you eat it. #foodfacts #nutritionfacts #didyouknow #healthfacts #foodscience
