Whenever I give this information to parents in one of my classes I have to add one big confession. I do actually use rewards bribes and even star charts at times in my parenting. Rewards, bribes and even charts on the fridge can get us an immediate result when time is of the essence, when we are tired or need to get from A-B or when we want to change a short-term habit, or when we are just exhausted. An example of a great use for a reward chart can be when you are toilet training your child. However knowing that: ✔️ Bribes, threats and rewards will not change behaviour long-term ✔️ that learning to be a confident leader in boundary moments allows your child to feel safe in their relationship with you. ✔️ That boundaries are essential in order to juggle more than one child. When parents attend one of my classes or do a one on one and they find out why boundaries are so hard for the current generation of parents, and how often they need to be setting clear confident boundaries everything becomes much clearer and easily and suddenly the task of saying no to your child can become a moment of confidence and kindness that benefits everyone.
