Bun is designed as a drop-in replacement for your current JavaScript & TypeScript apps or scripts — on your local computer, server or on the edge. Bun natively implements hundreds of Node.js and Web APIs, including ~90% of Node-API functions (native modules), fs, path, Buffer and more.
It's features are:
- JavaScript runtime with Web APIs like fetch, WebSocket, and several more builtin. bun embeds JavaScriptCore, which tends to be faster and more memory efficient than more popular engines like V8 (though harder to embed)

In 2022, former Stripe developer Jared Sumner released Bun. Bun is a runtime developed in the Zig programming language, which also embraces web standards but aims for compatibility with Node.js APIs, so developers can easily migrate existing code.
One of the most interesting choices is that Bun uses the JavaScriptCore as its engine, unlike Node.js and Deno, which use V8. The result is a blazing fast runtime that also offers several quality of life features for JavaScript developers.
Bun also has first class integration of TypeScript and JSX. It aims to provide many of the features of transpilers, like Babel, and Bundlers like Webpack, Rollup, Snowpack, and Vite.
Will Bun overtake Deno and challenge Node.js for its throne? We’ll have to wait and see. Bun will at least, like Deno, show off many innovations that Node.js can adopt while carving out a space of its own.
Either way, it’s a big win for JavaScript developers everywhere to have another runtime in the space. At the time of writing, Bun is still early in its development with many APIs and features not yet implemented. However, what is available so far is quite impressive, so it’s worth keeping up with.

COIf you’re a web developer then at some point in development you’ve used node.js
Node.js has been the most popular Javascript runtime engine among the developer community, which is built on Chrome’s V8 Javascript Engine.
After node came Deno, built on modern Javascript features which is safe so say a faster, secure and modern tool to build apps.
Deno has been the talk of the town since it was shipped, built by Ryan Dahl who also created Node.
And now we have Bun.
Bun as the github documentation says, is an incredibly fast Javascript runtime, bundler and transpiler. Bun embeds Javascript core which tends to be faster and more memory efficient than more popular engines like V8.
Bun is still at the early access mode and a lot of components are yet to work as they supposed to , but thanks to the power of open source we will see the progress much faster.
Bun looks promising. if you haven’t tried the beta version yet, it’s time to you create a new project. 🧑💻👩💻
