This was such a special opportunity — Aurelia was recently invited to perform in front of hundreds of people with the famed conductor, Benjamin Zander. This was such a special opportunity for her because the entire audience was composed of non-musicians. No one was there to hear her or her Rococo or Bach. Instead, people were coming to learn about life and the decisions that come with it, that we face every single day. She was able to perform right in front of people, watch their reactions to changes in Bach, to understanding the music, and she loved it. It’s so important to spread classical music around the world, everywhere we go- not just to the audiences we already have. This was the first time she has performed for such a huge audience like this and she came away exhausted and inspired. I asked her why she felt so tired, and she said that felt a need to convince every person in the audience to listen to some classical music, to convince them that it’s not boring. In December of 2025, @opal.strings generously — ‼️Today’s video is for all you #cellists out there who are discontent with your current string set-up‼️ In December of 2025, @opal.strings generously sent me a set of their Opal Gold cello strings. 8.5 months in, I’m in love more than ever. ➡️A little insider to my cello situation: I don’t own a cello — while I’m incredibly grateful to play on great Italian instruments, it also means having to change my instrument more often than I’d like — try 7 cellos since 2016. In 2021, I received a really unhappy cello. And by unhappy, I mean 5 wolf notes across all registers — 2 of which were on the open A and F (in 4th position) 😮‍💨 So what does an insecure, broke, conservatory student do? Buy $3,000 worth of strings on a credit card (please DO NOT do this). Ultimately, I settled on a composite set-up of strings until I met Opal, and this is what I love about them: 1. Resonance: these strings ring like you’re playing in A = 415. Overtones for DAYS. 2. Crisp (like playing on new strings — and 8.5 months in, nothing’s changed), incredible projection without sounding shrill or losing the natural warmth + roundness of the cello. 3. Flexibility + Depth: you can shred your Shostakovich concerto — AND play your Bach and Schubert lied with the most delicate fragility. 💭My final thoughts?💭 Opal Gold captures the physicality + tonal essence of playing on gut strings while reaping the benefits of a “soloistic” modern string. #opalstrings #cellostrings
