KIHow to datamosh in a few easy steps ⬇️
1. Download Avidemux and open your video
2. Select MPEG ASP (xvid4) under video output
3. Click configure, and set b-frames to zero and GOP to 500
4. Change output format to AVI and save
5. Open the new file and change video output to copy
6. Delete I-Frames, and/or copy and paste P-Frames
7. Select the whole timeline and save another file, then reopen
8. Finally, save one more file with MPEG4 AVC (x264) as the video output, MP4 as the output format
Datamoshing is one of the coolest ways to glitch video, and the combination of the blooming effect caused by the p-frames and the pixelation caused by the i-frames makes for epic looking footage. Both effects work best on shots that contain motion, particularly the contrast between motion and stillness with the i-frame datamoshing, so experiment with different footage to see what works!

This is still one of my favorite videos I have ever made! Though it was made with data mosh 1.0 so I'm sure it would be less frustrating to make now that there is a newer better version of the data mosh plugin (for after effects) available.
Datamoshing is basically a technique of damaging video clips to create a glitch effect wherein frames that should change don't. It's most noticeable between cuts and across motion. Datamoshing is the process of corrupting, removing or replacing I-frames, causing P-frames to be applied to the wrong picture.I-frames are essentially a complete image of a video frame, whereas p-frames are comprised of where pixels from an i-frame need to move .

4XLet's talk about disk forensics and data recovery. It's the last #BlueTeamMonday of this series.
You'll need a few things to get started: Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, Kali, whatever) - perhaps a live-boot forensic distro like Paladin, USB hard drive adapter kit, At least 2x the size of the hard drive to be recovered worth of free space on some other hard drive (I use a 5TB external)
Optional: USB TTL Serial cable, Precision screwdriver kit, USB microscope, magnifier goggles, eye loupe
When responding to an incident that involves malicious activity, evidence integrity is very important and we use specialized tools like FTK Imager and Autopsy.
Some operations prioritize completeness of data for the best chance at full recovery so we make a full disk image with dd or ddrescue.
And sometimes, you just need to recover a few important files and time is of the essence. You can use NTFSUndelete or testdisk to recover accidentally deleted files. Testdisk can also help repair damaged partition tables and filesystem headers if the partition table has been damaged or overwritten.
If you have a corrupted filesystem, photorec can use heuristics to carve files out of hard drives or disk images that won't mount.
bulk_extractor is a forensic data analysis tool that finds URLs, credit card numbers, email addresses, accounts, and all kinds of stuff in unstructured memory and disk images.
Some hard drives have a serial console with extended debugging capabilities to help you determine drive health and bad sectors.
If you suspect the drive is physically damaged, making clicking noises, occasionally "vanishing" while connected, ddrescue will try very hard to create a usable disk image with multiple retries, even if parts of the drive are unreadable. Then you can then mount the image to recover the files, or use the above tools on the resulting image to process it forensically.
