Real change starts in the nervous system. EFT (emotional freedom technique) Tapping works by combining gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused attention and intentional language. This combination sends calming signals through the body’s sensory pathways to the brain, particularly to areas involved in stress and emotional processing like the amygdala. By stimulating these acupressure points while bringing awareness to an emotion or belief, EFT helps interrupt the stress response and retrain the nervous system to perceive safety. This allows the body to shift out of fight-or-flight and into a regulated, parasympathetic state, where healing and emotional processing can occur. A 2020 study by Dr. Peta Stapleton, published in the Journal of Psychological Trauma, found that EFT Tapping reduced cortisol (the primary stress hormone) by 43%. In this randomized, controlled trial, participants had their cortisol levels measured through saliva before and after a 60-minute session. Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as EFT tapping, takes affirmations to a whole new level. When tapping on specific meridian points while speaking out loud your negative beliefs & emotions, you are neutralizing any negative emotions and then working your way into positive beliefs & emotion, you are re-programming your mind & nervous system. I have committed to doing emotional freedom techniques every day for the last 6 months, and here's what has changed for me: 1) I no longer ruminate or fear worst case scenarios happening. As soon as I have a thought that doesn't feel good, I tap it out and then I tap in a new belief or story I want to experience instead. 2) I've been manifesting my desires with ease. Things I've written down months ago are now coming into form, and they come when I least expect it. Money comes out of nowhere. Opportunities come when I don't even ask for it. And I've been meeting new people who are exactly an energetic match to the energy I continuously want to surround myself with. 3) I now have full belief in myself and my capabilities. I used to talk myself out of certain experiences or opportunities, and now, I have the confidence to say "yes" to things I would be afraid to do. 4) I trust that everything is working out for me. I no longer sweat over the small stuff because I know all of that "stuff" is actually leading me to my highest good. I see the challenges as growth rather than setbacks. 5) My nervous system and body feel much more comfortable and at ease in stressful situations. I've had social anxiety for as long as I can remember, and these last few months, I've taught myself to stay calm. That's all because I've tapped whenever I feel social anxiety, and it has been released to the point where it doesn't control me anymore. I neutralized the social anxiety. EFT works by calming the nervous system while the brain is processing a stressful thought or memory, allowing the brain to reconsolidate the memory with less emotional charge. When something feels stressful, the brain’s alarm system (the amygdala) switches on. EFT uses gentle tapping on specific acupuncture points while you focus on the issue, sending calming sensory signals back to the brain. This is called bottom-up regulation - the body calming the brain, not thinking your way out of it. Because the body is calm while the memory is active, the brain learns it doesn’t need to react the same way anymore. Repetition strengthens this new response. Sleep locks it in. Same memory.
