We did something similar for my college class, but I wanted to understand the math a bit better so I used Codex to make this visualisation software
💡In math terms, an echo is a delayed copy of the signal. You take a sound, wait a bit, then play it back — the more energy gets fed back, and the echo becomes more noticeable.
Codex is a coding agent built to handle real engineering work with minimal supervision. Which means I can go to psets (and do my laundry) without prompting it all the time. It just launched for Windows, so go try it out!

PREmbeddings are how we make language computable. Just like latitude and longitude turn cities into numbers so you can calculate distances between them, embeddings turn words into lists of numbers — vectors — so computers can do math with language. Each word gets, say, 300 numbers that represent its position in “meaning space.” Similar words like “dog” and “cat” end up at nearby coordinates, while unrelated words like “dog” and “parliament” land far apart. Without this, an LLM can’t do its core job of predicting the next word, because raw text carries zero mathematical relationships.
The beautiful part is nobody hand-picks these numbers. Google’s Word2Vec model in 2013 showed you can learn them automatically from raw text using one simple idea: a word’s meaning comes from the company it keeps. Every word starts with random coordinates, and as the model reads billions of sentences, it nudges words that appear together closer and pushes unrelated words apart. The result is a space where meaning is genuinely encoded, so much so that “king” minus “man” plus “woman” equals “queen,” a relationship nobody programmed.
But Word2Vec has a fatal flaw: every word gets one fixed vector forever. “Bank” gets the same numbers whether you mean a riverbank or a financial institution. Modern LLMs like ChatGPT solved this by computing different embeddings for the same word depending on the full sentence around it, making embeddings context-aware. How they do that is the next video.
