Jupiter. 🗿. Jupiter, the Solar System’s heavyweight—over 300 × Earth’s mass—acts as a cosmic shield by using its immense gravity to deflect, capture, or destroy countless asteroids and comets that might otherwise threaten Earth. It dominates and stabilizes the asteroid belt via orbital resonances, preventing many space rocks from drifting inward, and intercepts long-period comets from the Oort Cloud, often flinging them away or drawing them into itself—as dramatically evidenced by comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 in 1994. While Jupiter can sometimes act like a “cosmic pinball,” nudging objects toward the inner Solar System, its overall influence lowers Earth's bombardment rate and has played a crucial role in maintaining the stable, life-friendly conditions we enjoy today. Overall, its presence has significantly reduced the long-term bombardment rate, contributing to the stability and habitability of Earth and other inner planets. The complexity of its role demonstrates that Jupiter isn’t a simple shield—but rather a powerful force that has shaped life-friendly conditions in our solar system. #CosmicGuardian – emphasizes Jupiter's protective role in the solar system. #jupitershield #ɪɴsᴛᴀʀᴇᴇʟs #viral_video #SpaceProtector

🗿Jupiter’s immense gravity—over 300 times more powerful than Earth’s—acts as a cosmic gatekeeper, deflecting or capturing many comets and asteroids before they reach the inner Solar System. Positioned just beyond the asteroid belt, it shapes orbital paths via gravitational resonances (like the Kirkwood gaps), steering dangerous objects away from Earth. The 1994 Shoemaker–Levy 9 impact dramatically showcased this effect, as Jupiter absorbed fragments that might otherwise have threatened us . At a rate possibly thousands of times higher than Earth’s impact rate, Jupiter regularly intercepts cosmic debris . However, its influence is nuanced—some gravitational interactions can redirect objects inward, creating a complex interplay of protection and risk . Overall, Jupiter’s presence has significantly reduced the frequency of catastrophic impacts, helping create the stable environment needed for life to flourish on Earth. #cosmicguardian #jupiter #CosmicGuardian #JupiterShield #KeplerDefense #AsteroidProtection #SolarSystemSafety #SpaceScience #PlanetaryShielding #ɪɴsᴛᴀɢᴏᴏᴅ #ɪɴsᴛᴀʀᴇᴇʟs

✨️Jupiter's Great Red Spot✨️ Jupiter's Great Red Spot is an enormous anticyclonic storm that has raged on the planet's surface for centuries, is now smaller than ever. Recent observations, primarily from the Hubble Space Telescope, indicate that the Great Red Spot measures approximately 10,250 miles in diameter. This is a significant reduction from the storm's historical sizes. For instance, in the 1800s, the diameter was estimated to be around 25,500 miles, and during the Voyager flybys in 1979, it measured about 14,500 miles. The shrinkage has accelerated in recent decades, changing the storm from an oval to a more circular shape. The reduction of the Great Red Spot is a subject of study to better understand Jupiter's atmospheric mechanisms and the storm's potential future developments. Earth is significantly smaller compared to Jupiter's Great Red Spot, even with the recent reductions in the storm's size. Here is a size comparison based on the latest information: 1. Diameter of Earth: Earth has an average diameter of about 7,917.5 miles (approximately 12,742 kilometers). 2. Diameter of Jupiter's Great Red Spot: Currently, the Great Red Spot measures approximately 10,250 miles (about 16,500 kilometers). The Great Red Spot is about 1.3 times larger than the diameter of Earth. ☆•☆•☆ ✨️COLLABORATION @modernsciencex ✨️Credit clips used in editing: NASA JPL, Canva, PixaBay Last Engulfing Earth Animation: @IG.astroscience ✨️Music: Sleepwalker (Slowed) ✨️CREDIT COMPOSITION/FORMATTING/ EDITING/FURTHER PROCESSING @glamour_physics @modernsciencex CONTENT USED FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY For the pics/clips used in this uploaded editing: All Rights And Credits Reserved To Respected Owner (s) No copyright infringement intended . You don’t land on Jupiter. You fall. And you keep falling. First, winds hit you at 600 km/h — faster than any hurricane Earth has ever seen. The clouds around you aren’t white and peaceful, they’re ammonia and sulfur, burning and toxic. As you drop deeper, pressure crushes you from every direction — your body compresses like a tin can in a hydraulic press. There’s no surface waiting for you. Just layers getting hotter, denser, darker. Somewhere deep enough, the gas becomes liquid, then metallic hydrogen — a state of matter that doesn’t even exist on Earth. You don’t crash. You dissolve. Jupiter doesn’t kill you once. It kills you in stages. . . #Jupiter #FallingIntoJupiter #WhatIf #SpaceFacts #UniverseGoneWrong CosmicHorror DeepSpace PlanetJupiter SpaceExploration DarkUniverse CosmicFacts

❤🗿. In the vast expanse of our solar system, Jupiter stands as both a guardian and a potential threat to Earth. Its immense gravitational pull, over 300 times that of Earth's, acts as a cosmic shield, deflecting or capturing asteroids and comets that might otherwise pose a danger to our planet. This protective role has earned Jupiter the moniker "cosmic vacuum cleaner." However, this same gravitational force has also been responsible for redirecting objects toward the inner solar system, occasionally increasing the risk of impacts on Earth. Early in the solar system's history, Jupiter's migration toward the Sun, as proposed by the Grand Tack hypothesis, may have disrupted the formation of inner planets, leading to collisions and the eventual formation of the terrestrial planets, including Earth. Saturn's gravitational influence is believed to have halted Jupiter's inward journey, preventing further chaos and allowing the solar system to stabilize. Thus, Jupiter's relationship with Earth is a complex interplay of protection and peril—a celestial dance of love and destruction. 🔖 Hashtags: #JupiterAndEarth #CosmicGuardian #PlanetaryLove #GrandTackHypothesis #CelestialDynamics #SpaceScience #AsteroidDeflection #SolarSystemFormation #AstronomyInsights #planetaryprotection #ɪɴsᴛᴀʀᴇᴇʟs #ɪɴsᴛᴀɢᴏᴏᴅ

Jupiter's Rotation and Io Transit This is my first time-lapse of Jupiter, capturing 1hours and 30minutes of Jupiter Rotation and Io's transit! 🌑 Although the seeing conditions weren’t the best, I’m happy with the result, even if the shadow of Io didn’t appear as clearly as I’d hoped. You can also see the Great Red Spot beginning to rise during the sequence, an amazing sight!😃 This is the first of many time-lapses to come 🎥, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. This project consisted of 9 videos, each 3 minutes long, stacked and processed to highlight the details of Jupiter’s surface.✨ Equipment I used: Celestron NexStar 6SE ZWO ASI 662MC ZWO IR-Cut Filter Barlow 2x Processing Software I used: PiPP, RegiStax 6, OpenShot and Photoshop Date: 18/01/2025 #pipp #registax6 #photoshop #openshot #jupiter #celestron #zwo #celestronnexstar6se #celestronnextar #zwoasi662mc #iotransit #transit #jupiterrotation #astrophotographyportugal #astrofotografiaportugal #planetrotation
