The pathway rehab worked!! 💅🏼 This Spring I shared how the blue star creeper in our flagstone pathway was looking mid affffff. The main culprit was that the ground cover I planted had hit the sand I had put down (instead of topsoil) between the joints last year when we built this area. And over the winter, the weather displaced a lot of the remaining topsoil that was left in and around the blue star creeper. So I gave the pathway a little love by removing the sand and replacing it with topsoil and it looked rough for another few weeks until seemingly overnight everything just filled in! There’s still a few pockets of topsoil left but we’re getting there!! Can’t wait for year 3. My only issue is that I have a couple different variations of blue star creeper..the blue star creeper I bought from home improvement stores are borderline invasive and don’t respect the landscape edging boundaries I have for them, while the more expensive blue star creeper I bought from a local nursery, is behaving and looking absolutely spectacular. This was one of those projects I started, got bored, forgot about, then finished 8 months later! A story that reoccurs so it seems! If you remember a few years ago I took on the task of a flagstone crazy paving patio & I painstakingly pointed the gaps by hand with mortar! Well that said mortar did not last, cracking in the elements! If only I knew about this jointing compound at the time! Anyway fast forward to now & I have learnt from my mistakes & discovered new ways of working! My veggie patch garden path is complete & I cannot tell you how much easier it was to point the gaps! I used Sika FastFix Ready mixed Quick dry Jointing compound in the colour ‘dark buff’ which is the perfect colour for my reclaimed flagstones! It’s the ideal solution to perfect pointing on paving, paths and patios & it sets hard like mortar! You can even do this in the rain which is great news bc it rains all the time in the UK! Reclaimed flagstones are from @cawardenreclaim Sika Fastfix is from @amazonuk Now this is done maybe I will dig out the pointing in my patio & use the same mix! I will be sharing the whole process of laying my garden path from start to finish soon! You know I love a good experiment! I grabbed these $12 step stones (12 total) and made a flagstone-style pathway! Yes, you can purchase cut flagstone, but I was curious to try this method. The sandstone is easy to move, carry, and transport. My first try with paver base panels failed on my sloped yard - they turned slick. So I switched to decomposed granite, which holds much, much better. To cut, I used a 1 ¾” chisel and 3lb hammer. The stones didn’t always break on the line (lots of trial and error), but I liked the rustic look, fitting the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. I finished by sweeping decomposed granite into the gaps and compacting with water. Would you try this? Hope this helps - talk soon!

I don’t know what I think about the change I made to this area of my yard. It was prompted because it was difficult weed eating around the solar lights and so I decided to just get rid of that grass and add a border of stones to transition from wood chips to the flagstone path. My husband (and I agree with him) thinks that there’s something off about the way it looks. Is it too straight, too uniform? I don’t know. I can’t figure it out. Something just doesn’t look right I also added in some sweet potato vine and some bandana Lantana to complement the hellebores, hostas and ferns I think harvesting some moss from our side yard to go in between the stones and maybe some red creeping thyme would look really cool. I also added an 82 foot Hoselink retractable hose to this side of the yard to make watering this area easier and if you are looking to add a hoselink to your yard comment HOSE and I will send you a link for their retractable hoses and a $10 off code. I’ll take any suggestions you have to try and make this look less weird 😂
