🚨Trend Alert! How did we do? ✨ We’ve talked enough about French clichés but...what about French Teacher clichés?? I think every French learner can agree that counting in French makes zero sense and that French teachers (well, French people in general) will more than likely correct you when you misgender a word...is this relatable?? 👩‍🏫 Here, laughter is always a part of the curriculum! And we love to show the fun side of our teachers, especially Anicet and Quentin who...let’s face it...aren’t camera shy! Can you think of any more French Teacher clichés? ❌ Comme ci, comme ça It’s one of the first phrases every French learner is taught… But here’s the truth: no one actually says that in France. Where does it come from? It literally means “like this, like that” — and it was popularized in the mid-20th century through old language manuals and movies. It gave generations of students a safe way to say “so-so.” Why is it cringe now? Because it feels stuck in time. It’s textbook French, not how real people speak today. It instantly marks you as a tourist or beginner. Say this instead: ✅ Bof ✅ Pas terrible ✅ Mouais, ça va… Want to sound like a real French speaker? Did you just call your house salty? 🤔 Even intermediate French learners often mix up the pronunciation of these two words: 🧹 Sale = dirty 🧂 Salé = salty Remember, you pronounce the "é" in "café," and we also have to pronounce the É sound in salé! The E is silent at the end of the word if it doesn't have an accent 🤗 What other words are tricky for you to pronounce as a French learner?

Ever get stuck mid-sentence because you're not sure which preposition to use? As a French learner, I used to freeze up ALL the time, especially with 'penser de' vs 'penser à'. Here's the thing: we naturally want to translate word-for-word as we build sentences and "de" as "of" or "from" seems the obvious choice. But just like with any language, French has its own logic, and sometimes "à" is the right choice. Penser à = think of/think about something or someone. "Je pense à mes vacances" Penser de = exclusively used to think about opinions and heard mainly in the question "Qu'est-ce que tu penses de...?" After years of teaching English speakers in the sunny South of France, I've noticed something important: we make faster progress when we focus on practical, everyday expressions rather than trying to memorise endless grammar rules. The solution? Stop translating and start seeing these verbs and prepositions as complete packages. It's like learning 'look after' in English - you wouldn't try to understand why it's not 'look before' or 'look behind', right? 😉 🎁 Want my practical guide to the most common 'de' verbs you'll actually use in daily life? Comment DEMOI (one word) below! Because remember - the goal isn't to speak perfect French. It's about being able to express yourself naturally in those language exchanges and social situations that matter to you. #FrenchLearning #LearnFrench #FrenchGrammar #FrenchInPlainSight
