📍SAVE THIS POST: What You Can Direct Sow in March 🌱I had to replay this classic video for my Gardeners 💃🏽👩🏾‍🌾 Direct sowing simply means planting seeds straight into the soil where they will grow to maturity. These crops love cooler temperatures and often grow best when they aren’t transplanted. Here’s what gardeners can typically direct sow in March depending on their zone. Zones 8–9 Peas,Carrots,Radishes,Spinach,Lettuce,Arugula,Turnips,Beets,Mustard Greens,Collards,Kale,Swiss Chard,Green Onions,Potatoes,Bok Choy,Tatsoi,Cilantro,Dill Zones 6–7 Peas,Carrots,Radishes,Spinach,Lettuce,Arugula,Turnips,Beets,Mustard Greens,Kale,Collards,Swiss Chard,Green Onions,Potatoes,Cilantro,Dill Zones 3–5 Peas (late March),Spinach,Radishes,Arugula,Lettuce,Kale,Mustard Greens,Green Onions,Dill,Cilantro Always check your soil conditions and local frost dates before planting. Cool season crops thrive in early spring and will reward you before the summer heat arrives. 🌿 .. #gardentips #gardening #spring

This is the best advice I ever received about growing flowers. Do you remember way back when @hgtv used to have gardening programs on? There was this one show called A Gardener’s Diary, and one of the gardeners sharing a tour of his gardens described his attitude toward growing flowers. It really stuck with me. And I guess you could say this applies to growing anything, but I feel it most with flower gardening. I subscribe to the motel theory of gardening. Our gardens are like a motel. Some plants check in, love it, and stay. Others check in, don’t love it, and leave. That simple idea completely changed my attitude toward growing things, because it takes the stigma out of losing flowers and plants we wanted to grow but weren’t successful with. I’ve carried that perspective with me throughout my gardening life. As we head into the new year, I hope you take this with you — not as a rule, but as permission. Permission to experiment, to let things go, and to stop seeing plant loss as failure. So the next time you get down on yourself about a plant that didn’t do well, remember: it didn’t fail - it just didn’t love it here. 🌸

3 reasons your balcony edibles will never reach their full potential (and how to fix it) Most balcony gardeners are doing everything right. Watering, sunlight, love. And still wondering why their harvest is so disappointing. Here is what nobody tells you. 1. You are using the wrong soil Garden soil and potting soil are not the same thing. When you pack garden soil into a container it compacts over time and cuts off oxygen to your roots. No oxygen means no nutrient uptake. No nutrient uptake means weak, flavourless produce. Always use a high quality potting mix with good drainage. Your plants will tell the difference immediately. 2. Your pots are not deep enough A plant can look perfectly healthy above the soil and be completely strangled below it. Tomatoes need at least 12 inches of depth. Peppers need 10. Even herbs like basil perform so much better when they have room to grow. If your container is cute but shallow your harvest will suffer for it. Depth is not optional. It is everything. 3. You are ignoring your balcony microclimate Balconies are harsh and most people have no idea. Wind pulls moisture out of your soil way faster than a regular garden bed. Walls and floors soak up heat all day and push it back onto your plants at night. This combination stresses your plants constantly and affects both growth and flavour. Spend a day watching how your balcony behaves at different times and move your plants around accordingly. Fix these three things and your balcony garden will actually start producing food worth eating. Save this for your next growing season. #plantwithmayur #garden #gardening #indoorgarden #aparmentgarden
