In these “Why Major” essays, make sure to describe what initially sparked your interest in your intended major, then show how you’ve actively pursued this interest over time. So start with a memorable moment that ignited your passion — this could be anything from building a telescope, to watching your relative struggle with an illness. Whatever it is, make sure it shows the authentic roots of your interest.
Then highlight 1-2 meaningful experiences where you’ve deepened this interest. Did you join or start a school club? Take advanced courses? Do research in an internship? These experiences demonstrate commitment to your interest.
And finally, the most important part is connecting this essay to Georgia Tech specifically. Research their unique offerings (think: the Invention Studio, research opportunities through CREATE-X, or specific courses taught by professors). Get really specific to really show that you’ve done your research!
