New satellite analysis reveals the staggering scale of destruction across the Gaza Strip. 📉
Data from the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) confirms that as of late 2025, nearly 200,000 structures have been affected. In places like Tal al-Sultan and Khuza'a, entire blocks are simply gone.

ASDans cette simulation, un satellite tourne autour de la Terre.
Sous lui, on voit une ligne se dessiner : c’est son empreinte au sol (ground track).
Un satellite d’observation ne voit qu’une bande étroite de la surface à chaque passage.
Il ne cartographie pas la planète en une fois.
Pendant que le satellite orbite :
- la Terre tourne sur elle-même
- l’orbite du satellite reste quasi fixe dans l’espace
- la trace au sol se décale à chaque révolution
Résultat : orbite après orbite, le satellite balaye progressivement toute la planète.
La plupart des satellites de cartographie utilisent :
- des orbites polaires ou héliosynchrones
- une altitude d’environ 500 à 800 km
- des instruments qui observent une largeur de fauchée précise
En combinant des centaines de passages,
les données sont assemblées pour créer :
- des cartes topographiques
- des images globales
- des modèles 3D de la Terre
Chaque carte que nous utilisons aujourd’hui
est le résultat de millions de kilomètres parcourus en orbite.
