Today, Keith Haring’s advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS continues here at GMHC at The Keith Haring Food Pantry in partnership with The Keith Haring Foundation.
Since 2010, the pantry has provided access to fresh food for New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS who are experiencing food insecurity.
We’re very thankful for our partnership with the Keith Haring Foundation and for the work we continue together. ♥️

KEKeith’s first video: “Painting Myself Into a Corner.”
In 1978, Keith began experimenting with video as a way to merge painting and performance. In his first completed work, “Painting Myself Into a Corner” (excerpted here), he listens to Devo while rhythmically painting thick black lines across a canvas laid on the floor—until he leaves himself just a narrow wedge of space.
“My recent paintings and sculptures deal more with space than with pictorial concerns,” he wrote on December 18 of that year, as his focus began to shift. “I am just now becoming aware of how important it is to utilize space and movement in harmony…”

SGI found this vintage piece in my art collection from school, and it was the best self portrait piece I've done.

It combined the styles of Chuck Close & Keith Haring, using the grid and symbols to illustrate thoughts going through my mind as teen. The colors represented my overall mood, being in a depressed state and not absorbing my warm surroundings. Basically living in my own head.
