Need a nudge for direction? Here’s a cheat sheet:
🌐 Web Development:
🔸 JavaScript: The front-end favorite for interactive websites- use it for both backend and frontend!
🔸 Python: My personal fav- and super versatile for backend, data science, web dev, ML, AI and much more!
🔸 PHP: The old reliable for server-side scripting- still runs 70% of the web so it’s great to know.
📱 Mobile Development:
🔸 Swift: The go-to for iOS apps- don’t bother with Objective-C in my opinion- unless you have a specific job in mind. 42% of top US apps are iOS-based. Swift makes them fast and user-friendly.
🔸 Kotlin: Android dominates 71% of the mobile market, and most of these apps, and Kotlin is the best for app creation- BUT learn Java FIRST as your foundation.
🎮 Game Development:
🔸 C++ & C#: The backbone of high-performance gaming, with Unity and Unreal Engine as your tools.
🔸 However- learn C FIRST (and I would NOT recommend as your first language unless you like to cry….start with Python THEN C if game dev is your goal.)
🤖 AI & Machine Learning:
🔸 Python: The king of AI with its treasure trove of libraries-
🔸 R: The statistician’s choice for insightful data analysis - but personally I’d only choose this if you already know the use cases require it.
🔧 System Administration:
🔸 Bash: Script your way to efficient system management.
🔸 Learn Cloud - GCP, AWS, Azure- doesn’t matter the platform- just start learning.
🚀 Each language has its own use cases but don’t get caught up in the “which is best” battle….
Choose one that aligns with your goals as an Engineer- OR with the project’s needs. If you don’t have a project in mind- just take the leap and START.
