Hans Spemann (27 June 1869 – 9 September 1941) was a German embryologist who was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1935 for his student Hilde Mangold's discovery of the effect now known as embryonic induction, an influence, exercised by various parts of the embryo, that directs the development of groups of cells into particular tissues and organs, one of the first steps towards cloning. Spemann added his name as an author to Hilde Mangold's dissertation (although she objected) and won a Nobel Prize for her work. #NobelPrize #Embryology #HansSpemann #DevelopmentalBiology #Organizer #StemCells #MedicalHistory #Science #Biology #Regeneration

📸 1927 Solvay Conference – The Photo That Changed Physics In this legendary photograph taken at the Solvay Conference in Brussels, some of the greatest scientific minds in history stand side by side. Among them: Albert Einstein Niels Bohr Marie Curie Werner Heisenberg Erwin Schrödinger Paul Dirac Out of the 29 scientists in the photo, 17 were or became Nobel Prize winners. This wasn’t just a meeting — it was a turning point in the development of quantum mechanics. The debates that happened in this room shaped modern physics and changed how we understand reality itself. Sometimes, a single photo captures a revolution. . . . . . . #Science #Physics #QuantumMechanics #Einstein #HistoryOfScience #SolvayConference #NobelPrize

#Livesciencecom Reel by @astrokirsten - 🏆 The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics just went to three scientists for discovering something that blurs the line between the classical and quantum world

🏆 The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics just went to three scientists for discovering something that blurs the line between the classical and quantum worlds. Normally, we think of the world in two categories: 🔹 Classical = cars, baseballs, everything we can see. 🔹 Quantum = atoms, electrons, the really tiny stuff. But these researchers made a macroscopic system, something made of many things, behave like a quantum object. 🤯 They built a tiny electric circuit using superconductors (materials that let electricity flow with zero resistance), separated by a thin layer that blocks current. Inside, electrons paired up and acted like a single giant particle. Then came the wild part: they observed quantum tunnelling – something passing through a barrier it shouldn’t be able to cross. Like throwing a ball at a wall and having it appear on the other side. 🎾➡️🚪➡️🎾 Their circuit also absorbed and released energy only in discrete packets – quantised energy – another quantum-only behaviour. So even though this was a classical system, it acted like one big quantum object – proving that the boundary between the classical and quantum worlds isn’t as clear as we thought. Congratulations to John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis – and thank you for breaking all our brains (in the best way). 🧠✨ #NobelPrize #QuantumPhysics #Physics #Science
