This little 9-gallon seahorse tank has been running for about a year now and it’s been one of my favorite small builds. The whole thing sits on a slide-out shelf, which actually makes maintenance way easier than a typical nano setup. What most people don’t realize is that this tank is actually connected to my 220-gallon reef aquarium and acts as its refugium. I originally set it up as a simple macroalgae tank, but over time it turned into a full macro jungle. That’s one of the things I love about macroalgae aquariums — they create a really natural environment with tons of hitching spots for seahorses while also helping the larger reef system. The seahorses have been doing great, but they’re definitely ready for a bigger home. Stay tuned to see their new tank. . . . #seahorsetank #macroalgae #saltwateraquarium #nanotank #aquarium

Macroalgae can be found in nearly every area of the ocean with a variety of shapes, colors, growth patterns, and purposes. Most species of macroalgae are found closer to the surface or in the shallow tidepools and lagoons, this is because of their need to photosynthesize, but some species like kelp can grow from deep in the ocean to reach this light, which is absolutely gorgeous to see!. Most species of macroalgae will fall into their individual families, for example: caulerpa, but within each family their is a range of diversity which I find super fascinating. You can have the same species of macroalgae, but due to the individual ecological stressors, they may look entirely different or grow in completely opposite ways. I think macroalgae is often underappreciated in reefkeeping, this is often because of the crazy colors and shapes of most coral, but macroalgae adds a realistic touch to an aquarium that is unreplicatable without its presence. 〜海藻も四季を感じて〜 Day168 4月も後半になってだいぶ暖かくなりましたね☀️ 11月に立ち上げたこのボトルも初めて暖かい季節を迎えようとしています☺︎ 少し水温が上がったこともあってか海藻がぐんぐん成長をはじめました☺️ 季節によって海藻の共生微生物は種類が入れ替わったり、増減したりするそうですよ✨ 暖かいのが好きな微生物が増えてきたので春を感じますねー☀️実際に確認はできませんが😆笑 海藻の成長スピードが一段上がったことと、気泡がいたるところで上がってボトル全体の代謝が上がったことは間違いないです🌱 あとはタカノハヅタミニという名前でお迎えしたのですが、なんか12〜13cmくらいに巨大化してます☺️ 色々と変化が絶えなくて楽しいですね✨ @syo_aqua_plants 〜Seaweed also feels the seasons〜 Day168 It’s getting much warmer as we move into late April ☀️ This bottle, which I started in November, is about to experience its first warm season☺︎ With the slight increase in water temperature, the seaweed has started growing rapidly☺️ It is said that the types and balance of symbiotic microorganisms on seaweed change depending on the season✨ It feels like spring, as microorganisms that prefer warmer conditions seem to be increasing ☀️ (Although I can’t actually confirm it 😆 haha) The growth rate of the seaweed has clearly increased, and bubbles are forming all over the bottle, suggesting that the overall metabolism has gone up🌱 Also, the Takanoha-dzuta mini I introduced has grown to about 12–13 cm☺️ It’s really fun to see constant changes like this✨ #aquarium #plantedtank #aquascape #macroalgae #relaxing
