Monkey King: Hero Is Back (2015) follows a disgraced, magic-less Sun Wukong imprisoned under a mountain for 500 years. After a young boy named Liuer accidentally releases him, the pair—joined by Pigsy—travel to save children kidnapped by Mountain Demons. Wukong slowly rediscovers his heroism, powers, and responsibility.
Imprisonment: Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King, is imprisoned in an ice cage deep within mountains by the Buddha as punishment for rebelling against Heaven.
Release: Five hundred years later, after Mountain Trolls attack a village and kidnap children, a young boy named Liuer tries to save a baby girl. He runs into the mountains and breaks the seal on Wukong.
Lost Powers: Due to a remnant of the Buddha's seal, Wukong is unable to use his magic and can only rely on physical attacks.
