From this day forward, physical activity will no longer be a luxury for limb loss and limb difference communities in New Mexico but a RIGHT! Together we have passed and signed into law one of the nation’s most comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic coverage bills! Starting in January 2024, New Mexico will have O&P Insurance Fairness and will become the first state in the country to mandate insurance coverage for prosthetics and orthotics for physical activity! We have been able to achieve what most shared was impossible. We were able to create historical change because of your support. Every Round House visit, committee testimony, and phone call to reps/senators made a difference! Because of our coalition, our friends at @american_oandp, @amputeecoalition , AAOP, NAAOP, and our fantastic bill sponsors Rep. Liz Thomson (D), Sen. Siah Correa Hemphill (D), Rep. Kathleen Cates (D), Rep. Joshua Hernandez (R), Rep. John Block (R), Rep. Gail Armstrong (R), we were able to make this legislation possible! I am honored that New Mexico was able to be a part of the national, “So Kids Can Move” legislative initiative that has now ignited a national mobility movement powered by local legislative change!
