Nobody talks about this part of faith where following Jesus actually gets a little lonely because you are outgrowing the environments and people that used to feel like home. It hurts to feel misunderstood by the people who should know you best, but some circles are too small for the version of you that God is currently building. Do not shrink yourself just to fit back into a room you have outgrown. God is clearing the table to make space for the people who will actually nourish your soul.

The truth is that you are falling behind a timeline that God never actually signed off on. You are stressing about being single, or not having the career, or not being “there” yet, while looking at girls who are on a completely different assignment. Comparison is a thief that steals the joy of your unique journey. Your life is not a race against your friends; it is a walk with your Creator. He is never late, and He is never early. If you stop looking at their garden, you might notice what is finally blooming in yours.

One of the things you begin to notice as you follow Jesus is that the person you’ve been used to being doesn’t always fit the life God is leading you into. The reactions that once felt normal, the habits you carried for years, and the way you used to think about yourself, other people, and what mattered most all start to come into focus when the Lord begins pressing on those areas. And then suddenly you feel the tension of change. 😳 Ephesians 4 talks about putting off the old self and being renewed in the spirit of your mind. That’s not a one-time moment. It’s a wholeeee process. It’s in the slow, sometimes uncomfortable work of God reshaping you from the inside out. If you’ve ever felt that pull to leave behind patterns that once felt familiar, you’re becoming someone new in Christ. 🫶🏽 The version of you God is forming may not feel comfortable yet, but it will be freer, wiser, and far more grounded than the version you’re used to. 🤍

Not at a distance. Not waiting for a better version of you. Not holding back until you finally fix everything. But many of us were never taught that. The version of God most people were given… was a conditional one. Show up when you’re clean. Approach when you have something to offer. Come forward when your faith is strong enough to justify the proximity. So without even realizing it, we learn to filter ourselves. To bring the polished version. The composed version. The version that feels acceptable. And we carry our mess everywhere else— into our work, our relationships, our internal world— but keep it from the very place most capable of meeting us in it. So when life feels heavy… when we fall into old patterns… when we feel overwhelmed or disconnected… we don’t lean in. We pull away. Not because we don’t want God, but because somewhere deep down, we’ve learned: “I’ll come back when I’m better.” But the real invitation has never been that. It’s always been different. Bring it here. Exactly as it is. The doubt. The grief. The confusion. The anger. The version of you that doesn’t feel presentable. That is not the version to hide. That is the version being called. Because transformation doesn’t begin when you clean everything up. It begins when you stop performing… and start relating to God from what is actually real. This is the work. Learning how to stay present with God even in the parts of you that feel unresolved. Learning how to regulate your system enough to not run when things feel messy. I used to be inconsistent with God until I realized that no one was coming to save me. Jesus already came to save me 2,000 years ago: He was just waiting for my yes. Because Jesus will never give you a transformation & breakthrough that you don’t ask for. Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was because that’s what will either unlock or hinder a transformative relationship with God. When Simon confessed who He thought Jesus was (the Messiah and the Son of God), Jesus gave Him a new name and identity in Him, which came with authority, power, boldness, & a newfound intimacy with Christ (Matthew 16:13-19). What changed everything for me was asking God who He was, and pursuing Him for myself. When praying and reading the Bible became a priority over scrolling on my phone, that’s when I began to see true change in myself. My habits and desires changed, but I had to seek God outside of what social media said He was.
