SL“Apply broadly as early as possible” they say.
Yet, that’s an unrealistic privilege for many.
In a perfect world where money doesn’t matter, yeah sure apply everywhere right away.
But the reality is that many pre-AAs, especially those who come from less financially stable backgrounds, don’t have that luxury.
It may look like:
-being unable to apply early or at all due to difficulties paying to take prerequisite classes
-taking an extra year or two or three to apply in order to have the finances saved to pay for related application costs
-only being able to afford a limited number of programs to apply to
-not being able to participate in live conferences (FAAA or AAAA) that provide community support and networking opportunities
-having to borrow money to travel/fly to interviews on short notice
-reduced ability to consider post baccalaureate or other graduate study programs to enhance your application
-difficulties getting shadowing hours if wanting to pay a company to observe
-increased unseen mental and emotional load of financial struggles and challenges
-And so, so much more.
HOWEVER, this is where you can shine.
Your ingenuity, creativity, and tenacity will undoubtedly set you apart IF you keep showing up in ways that you can.
Start small by:
-building that budget
-prioritizing a few of your preferred schools over many
-connect with other pre-aas in free online spaces to find support(@nt.precaa @preaapathways or @preaanetwork )
