Do you have a quilt ready and waiting for binding? Let's get it finished before the end of the year! Machine binding is a quick and secure way to finish your quilts! Let me show you how to do it! 🪡This is the final part of my 3 part series on how to finish a quilt. See my previous reels for the other parts. This last part that covers binding has been broken into two sections: creating binding and attaching binding. For detailed steps for all the parts, visit my blog! Let's do this! 🙌🏼 On the back of the quilt, line up the binding with the edge of the quilt, raw edges together. Leaving a 10"-12" tail on the end, sew the binding to the quilt. Backstitch when you get 1/4" away from the corner and cut threads. Fold the binding over on itself so it makes a 90° angle and hangs to the right. Finger press that fold and hold it while you then flip the binding from the right to the left. Hold it tight while you turn the quilt and start sewing just inside the edge. Continue to attach the binding to each side in the same way. Go around the quilt, stopping about 12" from where you began. Take your two ends and fold each end back on itself so that there is 1/4" gap in between. On the left side, trim the binding directly on that fold. Open up the piece that you cut off and lay it along the top of your folded back binding on the right and trim. *Be careful not to trim through the lower layer of binding! Open the binding and sew the two ends of binding together on the diagonal. Then stitch down the rest of the binding to the edge of the quilt. Fold your binding to the front and topstitch close to the binding edge. At the corner, stop and fold the new side of the binding up to the front. Slowly stitch it down. Continue in this way all around the quilt. When you reach the starting place, stitch over the beginning few stitches and backstitch. Cut your threads and you are finished! 👉🏼Save this reel for future reference and share with a friend who could use it! 🩷 #quiltingtips #quiltersofinstagram #quilting #finishingaquilt #quiltbinding #howtobindaquilt #quilter #igquiltcommunity #quiltbindingtutorial #astitchisastitchpatterns #astitchisastitch

We’ve shared this trick to joining binding before, but it’s so good that we wanted to show you again! This is our favorite method for continuous binding, because it works perfectly every time, no matter what width you’re using. … 1. Cut a small piece of binding off one end. 2. Unfold that piece and use the width as a measuring guide between the two strips 3. Create the overlap by trimming each binding end on opposite sides of the guide. 4. Pin ends together on a 90 degree angle. This step can be a little tricky, so make sure to be careful here. 5. Sew ends together from corner to corner. 6. MOST IMPORTANT: check that the binding lays flat! Occasionally you’ll get twisted up, in which case it’s easy to rip it out and redo at this point. 7. Trim ends, press seam, and sew down to quilt. … Any questions? Leave us a comment! … #quiltbinding #quiltbindingtutorial #quilting #theclothparcel #quiltingtips #quiltingtutorial

Struggling with quilt binding? I struggled for a long time, but two ways I improved my binding were the following: 1. I baste my binding in place using washable Elmer’s glue and heat set. When I do this I make sure the edge of my binding is covering the stitches from attaching the front of the binding. By doing this I know that when I do the next thing I will catch my binding. 2. the “next thing”, 😆. I use a stitch in the ditch foot to stitch in the ditch between my quilt top and binding. By doing this, my stitches are almost invisible. When I stitch in that ditch, I am going to catch my binding that I basted in place. If you are still struggling after these tips, I highly recommend watching the Sharon Schambers Binding tutorial. Comment “Binding” and I will DM you the link. #quiltersofinstagram #beginnerquilter #quiltbinding #sewingtips #quilthacks #quiltersgonnaquilt #quiltreels #sewingreels

This is my very easy method to join binding ends. No need for any special tools or needing to cut and waste a piece of the binding to measure the width. Cutting the end slightly shorter removes any slack and the binding will be nice and flat when sewn Try this when you bind your next project! #quiltbindingeasy #quiltbinding #quiltbindinghack

Stop twisting yourself into knots over joining your binding tails!! Open the top folded binding, and fold it 45 degrees over your left hand finger, so the tail is not perpendicular to the quilt, facing right. Open the bottom tail, and lift it straight up, pin right sides together. When relaxed, these tails will want to be at an angle, like in this video. But, when flat and the top tail is still perpendicular to the quilt, this line of sewing is top left to bottom right. It makes a triangle of scrap to the right. Sew in this line, trim, and snap it open to a perfect finish! Save this video, share it …and tell me in the comments…have you ever twisted your binding? Did this help? Are you scared of joining your binding because you are nervous about twisting? Try this,..it works every time! Edit: I made a printable booklet of all my basic binding tips. 👀 in the IG info profile #QuiltIt #QuiltBinding #Quilting #CustomQuilting #FreeMotionQuilting #Sewing #sewingproject #quiltersofinstagram #quiltcoat love #quiltingit

I will never sew binding any other way than this! 🙌 It’s a huge game-changer. Sew the binding strip to the BACK of the quilt instead of the front. ✨ When I first started to machine bind a quilt, I used to secure the binding to the front of the quilt, which is the usual way to bind a quilt. Then, I would wrap the binding around to the back and stitch in the ditch on the front side. Which means I couldn’t see where the stitching was landing on the quilt backing or binding. By sewing the binding strip to the back first, you’ll get a more consistent, tidier, and prettier finish on the top, and the back is already secure! It’s a win-win-win. 😉 Have you tried this technique? Let me know in the comments. ⬇️ #machinebinding #quiltbinding #quiltingtechnique #quiltingtips #quiltinghack
