Here’s what’s actually happening: 👉 Reading gets harder 👉 Mistakes feel more noticeable 👉 It shifts from “fun” to “performance” So instead of trying more… kids start avoiding it. This isn’t laziness, it’s a confidence issue. Here are 4 tips that can help: 1️⃣ Lower-pressure reading (even easier books count) 2️⃣ Let them choose what they read 3️⃣ Make it playful again (voices, acting it out) 4️⃣ Let them read to something that doesn’t judge (stuffed animals 🧸 or pets 🐶) The goal isn’t to push more. Not struggle or tears or the feeling of “I can’t.” Success builds confidence — and confidence builds more reading.
