EMFirstly, yes that is (or was) a rat 🐭. I buy them frozen in large packs which I then leave on the counter for a few hours to thaw before feeding to my snakes. The rodents don’t come back to life. Snakes have to eat, and this is the food that is nutritious for them. I don’t participate in live feedings unless it’s absolutely necessary. Now that we’ve got that out of the way…
So THAT fleshy thing that opens and closes is a snakes glottis - a fascinating and vital part of its anatomy, located at the back of its tongue. It acts as the opening to the trachea (the snakes windpipe), allowing the snake to breathe. Unlike humans, whose glottis remains in a fixed position, a snake’s glottis is highly mobile and can extend outward, especially when the snake is consuming large prey. The glottis ensures that the snake can continue breathing even when its mouth is entirely occupied with swallowing food. Additionally, the glottis is equipped with a small, valve-like structure that can produce a hissing sound by forcing air through it, serving as a defense mechanism. 👅 🫁

RO⚠️☣️This was my own mistake with a captive bred rattlesnake in my house. The bite was NOT the snakes fault at all. Negligent feeding procedures on my end is what caused this.☣️⚠️

It has officially been 14 days since my snake bite. The blister has drained some and now the skin around it feels/looks like a deflated plastic grocery bag full of liquid. Pain levels are low but my finger sometimes feels a little weird or ticklish. My body is still fighting to heal but I’m definitely over the hill. Mobility and feeling are coming back slowly but surely. This leplep bite was not exactly the greatest point of my career, but a humbling lesson was learned, and it looks like I’ll make it out of this one with a functioning index finger. INA video of a giant reticulated python biting a zookeeper has gone viral on social media. The video was shared by Jay Brewer, Founder of the Reptile Zoo in California. A giant ivory and grey reticulated python attacked and bit the zookeeper who took its eggs away to safety.
The snake mom tries to defend its eggs which the zookeeper was trying to take away to keep them in a safer place. After dodging a few attacks, the snake finally gets him and bites him on his arm.
“20Ft Snake Bit Me. Well this giant pied girl has never really liked me and in this video she finally gets me not only is she super mom defending her eggs but she is only one generation from a wild snake making her genes a little more crazy regardless she’s a beautiful snake and her babies will be even prettier (sic),” Jay Brewer captioned the video.
