This is one of six reverse hyper machines that we have between Mableton and the Austell Annex. Some models are made for training only while pendulum style models like this one are made for training, back health, and injury recovery. We extended the feet on this machine to allow it to accommodate larger plates. Normally, 25 pound Olympic plates are enough since this machine doesn’t require nearly as much weight as other models, but this section of the Austell Annex uses calibrated plates, and those plates are thinner with a bigger diameter, so the extra space was needed. The Reverse Hyper was invented by Louie Simmons after he broke his back in 1978 and was unable to lift or compete. He used it to get healthy and compete again, and used it to recover from another serious back injury in 1983. While it can look dangerous (and can be if used improperly) it’s the only piece of gym equipment that provides traction, helping to reduce subluxation and realign the spine so that injuries can heal. Great tool to help reduce lower back tightness/blood flow and strengthen hamstrings, glutes, hips. I just got this new one from @roguefitness (scout hyper) that fits well in the garage. If you don’t have a hyper you can also use a GHD which I demo’d. I generally use It in the way demonstrated. @matt1chan and I were recently talking about It and It seems we do similar “workouts” with It and wanted to share.
