Roo has gained an incredible 1 kg since coming into our care, and Princess Piggy is up a whopping 1.4 kg, a true testament to her strength and resilience. How your Dog can rewild a garden by sowing seeds for Pollinators 🌸🐾🐝 My dog loves to hang out in the garden and now she can also spread out & sow seeds that are beneficial for biodiversity 😍 I use a tea strainer and wildflower seeds for pollinators. 💚 Simply place the seeds inside the tea strainer and close it. 💚 With movement, the seeds will fall off the tea strainer. 💚 Attach it to your dog’s collar and enjoy together some nice time in the garden. And while exploring the garden, your dog will spread out seeds which will give birth to wildflowers, feeding the bees and pollinators. Perfect to rewild the garden and do this before a rainy day to ensure germination or water your garden at sunset. You can easily adapt this technique by using other strainers for bigger seeds. It’s time to rewild the human experience again—outside of the boundaries we have placed between ourselves and the very nature we are composed of. At our core, there is no separation between our species and the intelligence of the Earth. There is no us vs. nature. Survival perhaps, and our need to navigate the Earth’s conditions in order to do so. Yet is it really about navigating nature as though it’s opposed to us, or more so about living alongside nature—as an ally, as something that challenges us? This is the wisdom that has carried our species for thousands of years—and so long as we are alive, it is not lost of us. Rewilding is a process of remembrance. Our separation from this truth has caused a great deal of suffering on Earth. We may not be able to change the entire course of humanity, but we surely can take part in a cascade of shifts simply by remembering who we are at the core. Without the separation. Without the fear of nature. Without the lack of reverence for life itself. And it may begin with how we engage with the world upon our first waking breath. Rather than turning to the phone or the email, or to the never-ending to-do list, we turn to the sun. We feel the heat on our face and witness the sky’s masterpiece unfolding before us. We stay present with the water in our cup and on our hands—acknowledging its life force, feeling the immense gratitude that we even have it in the first place. We slow down with our food—consciously knowing where it comes from and the labor and sacrifice that made it possible to nourish us. We touch the ground beneath our feet and the trees without the boundaries of shoes and gloves and allow it to enliven our senses. To fully merge ourselves with the medicine all around us. We feel the wind hitting our skin and give gratitude rather than running to the first sign of comfort. We reconnect ourselves not just in thought, but in complete immersion. When two becomes three! 🐨🌱   Big news for Taronga: we’ve established a third site: one of the largest Box-gum Woodland rewilding sites in Australia   Let us introduce Taronga Habitat Positive - an ecosystem restoration project for critically endangered Box-Gum Woodland, and a future safe haven for up to 36 threatened species including Koalas, Regent Honeyeaters and Platypus.   This world-leading project is the first of its kind for any zoo in the world and directly builds on Taronga’s century of conservation expertise and dedication to wildlife. I’ve been trying to do what I can to improve the little corner of the world I steward by putting more native plants in the ground to help address the biodiversity crisis. Since 2022, I’ve planted dozens of native plants in a previously barren yard. When I can’t sleep at night—which happens more nights than not these days—rather than counting sheep, I picture my yard and count my plants. It works! 💤 Within the first year of this project, we began to see more birds, insects and butterflies than we did before—and I am no master gardener. Released Rhinos Update Earlier today, Petronel visited the Intensive Protection Zone to check in on the crash of rhino orphans recently released to begin the next stage of their rewilding journey. Although they are now exploring their new home with growing confidence, they remain under careful, non-intrusive monitoring by our rhino monitors and rangers to ensure their safety and wellbeing. During their first week, the group spent a great deal of time walking and investigating every part of their new environment, an important step as they learn the landscape, water points, and safe resting areas. Now, they are settling beautifully. The rhinos are grazing naturally, beginning to establish healthy grazing patterns. Rewilding takes time, and these first weeks set the foundation for a rhino’s long-term success in the wild. Watching them settle, explore, and make confident choices in their new environment is a strong indication that the process is working exactly as it should. #careforwild #careforwildrhinosanctuary #rewild
