THDay 5 of the Beginner Crochet Series! 🧶✨
Meet the Half Double Crochet (hdc). If the single crochet is too short and the double crochet is too loose, this is your perfect middle ground. It makes the coziest, squishiest fabric!
The trick to this stitch is the very last step:
1️⃣ Yarn over.
2️⃣ Insert your hook and pull up a loop (you’ll have 3 loops on your hook).
3️⃣ Yarn over again and pull through ALL 3 loops at the same time!
It is so incredibly satisfying once you get the hang of it

THHappy TipTuesday - Today’s tip is for my amigurumi beginners.
Can you spot the difference between the two swatches? Swatch on the left is made with traditional, yarn-over single crochet while the one on the right is made by yarning under.
Yarning under creates stitches in a clean, grid-like finish, that resemble little Xs, which is why this stitch is also referred to as cross-stitch single crochet.
Yarning under also uses up a bit less yarn resulting in tighter stitches that are closer together, which is ideal for amigurumi because tighter stitches mean smaller gaps for the stuffing to poke through.
To work the cross-stitch single crochet just make sure the working yarn is under the hook on the first pull through. You can opt to yarn over or continue yarning under for the second pull through, but this will not affect the look of the stitch.

If you thought the single crochet took too long, the Double Crochet (dc) is about to be your new best friend. It’s twice as tall, giving your projects gorgeous drape and helping them grow so much faster!
Here is the secret formula:
1️⃣ Yarn over before you insert your hook.
2️⃣ Insert hook and pull up a loop (3 loops on the hook).
3️⃣ Yarn over, pull through the first 2 loops.
4️⃣ Yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops!
It feels like a lot of steps, but it becomes pure muscle memory in no time.
