KROn top of Mount Kosmaj, south of Belgrade,
stands a concrete star — the Monument to the Fallen Soldiers of Kosmaj.
Built in the 1970s to honor the partisans who died fighting fascism during WWII,
this concrete star rises above the trees like a silent witness.
It was never abandoned.
Locals still take care of it.
The path is clean.
Memory still lives here.

RULet's continue a bit more with SOVIET SYNTHPOP and focus on one of the most prominent among the Depechists—Russian Depeche Mode's tribe: Tekhnologiya (Технология).
Formed in 1990 by former members of the electronic group Bioconstructor, Tekhnologiya quickly became the defining face of Soviet Synthpop. The quartet crafted a sound that blended cold, synthetic textures with soaring, romantic melodies. Their arrival signaled a new era for Eastern electronic music, moving it from underground tape-trading into the mainstream spotlight.
The band’s aesthetic—characterized by black leather jackets, flat-top haircuts, and an impassive vocal delivery—led to constant comparisons with the British legends Depeche Mode. While critics often labeled them "clones," the Russian public saw them as homegrown icons who had mastered the high production standards of the West. For fans behind the thinning Iron Curtain, Tekhnologiya represented a sophisticated, modern future.
The peak of "Tekhnologiya-mania" arrived in 1991 with their debut album, Всё, что ты хочешь. The album featured the massive industrial-pop hit Нажми на кнопку, written by Ryabtsev. The song’s cynical yet catchy lyrics about instant gratification struck a chord with a youth generation experiencing the chaotic transition of the Soviet collapse.
This era of success culminated in a historic performance at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The band performed to a sea of fans in the massive sports arena. The sight of thousands of "Depechists" and pop fans cheering for a synth act in an Olympic-sized stadium remains one of the most iconic images of early 90s Russian culture.
Managed by the legendary Yuri Aizenshpis—the same producer who guided the rock band Kino to superstardom—Tekhnologiya was marketed with a scale and intensity never before seen for a Soviet electronic act. Aizenshpis utilized stadium tours and heavy television rotation to turn the band into a household name, proving that synthpop could be as culturally dominant as traditional rock.
Their legacy continues to influence the modern "Sovietwave" & post-punk scenes (Russian Doomer Music) that flourish across the globe today.
