It’s perfectly normal for colorwork to be a bit bumpy and uneven while you are knitting it. This is especially true if you are using a softer yarn. Woollier yarns will “behave” a bit better and give you a smoother fabric while you are knitting, while the softer yarns need a nice, relaxing bath (aka blocking) to make a smooth fabric. Don’t worry about it. Just block it. This sweater is a design I am working on. The pattern will be out sometime next year. #jessicamknits #knit #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knittingaddict #strandedknitting #colorworkknitting #fairisleknitting #icelandicknitting #knitstagram #knitting_inspiration #instaknit

Hi everyone! Thank you SO much for all the love on yesterday’s post—those float compliments totally made my day! 🥰 I had a bunch of you ask for a peek into my colorwork technique, so here’s a little breakdown of my style for stranded knitting: I hold both yarns in my right hand, one pinched between my index and thumb, and the other tucked between my third and fourth fingers. I use bamboo needles to help the yarn ‘stick’ a bit, which gives me more control when I lift my right hand to wrap the working yarn around. It’s a bit of a dance, and after years of practice, it’s become a pretty fluid movement. If you’re trying this, don’t feel like you have to do it exactly the same way! Everyone’s hands move a little differently, so experiment and find what feels comfortable for you. Remember, there’s no ‘right’ way to knit—only your way! 😉 And when all else fails? Block that beauty, and it’ll smooth right out. 💪🧶 Happy knitting! 💖✨ #knitstagram #howiknit #colorwork #strandedknitting #knitlove

#seaastersweater pattern is here! This top-down stranded colorwork yoke is the 6th design in the floral collection, made in collaboration with @townhouseyarns and @thisisknit from Dublin. It features a beautiful flower found along the shores of Ireland. 🌼 . The sweater is knit using their Clarendon Sock base, a luxurious fingering weight yarn. The colorwork continues past the sleeve separation, and because of the long floats in this organic, asymmetric motif, ladderback jacquard is recommended. The pattern includes detailed instructions, video tutorials, and charts with suggested ladderback jacquard placements. 🤓 . It comes in 9 sizes and offers plenty of fit adjustment options, including customizable yoke, body and sleeve lengths, as well as waist shaping or a straight fit. Plus, the charts are available in both light and dark backgrounds for different moods. 🤩 . You can grab the pattern with a 20% discount using code SEAASTER on Ravelry or our website until February 16th, 23:59 GMT. 🎁 . And today (February 9th) is the last day to get 10% off the original yarn kits from This Is Knit with code SeaAster10 (valid until midnight GMT).🥳

Stranded colorwork is the technique of knitting 2 colors per row. Fair Isle is a regional tradition from the Shetland Islands that employs stranded colorwork to create incredible, allover patterns. But not all stranded colorwork is Fair Isle. #knitting #colorworkknitting #fairisleknitting

I’ll start! Don’t worry about holding yarn in both hands right away! Focus on tension by dropping the strand you’re not using and stick to your usual knitting style. I’ve made plenty of sweaters this way and eventually transitioned to holding one strand in each hand, but there’s no rush to learn a new knitting method just to do stranded colourwork. The key is to stretch out the stitches you’ve just knit before switching colours. This keeps the float at the back loose enough for stretch! 🧶✨ Hope that was helpful! And I hope there will be many more great tips in the comments! Music from #Uppbeat, https://uppbeat.io/t/justin-lee/wanderlust. License code: CNZVVAMAKM9XV5LZ

➡️ do you enjoy colorwork knitting?! What was your last colorwork knit project? 🧶 What Is Fair Isle Knitting? Fair Isle knitting originates from the tiny Fair Isle in the Shetland Islands of Scotland. Traditional Fair Isle patterns include a limited palette of five to eight colors, strategically arranged to achieve a harmonious look. 🧶 Nordic Knitting: A Distinct Scandinavian Style Nordic knitting, or Scandinavian knitting, is another storied tradition, hailing from countries such as Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Nordic patterns often feature larger motifs, such as stars, snowflakes, or animals, and can include long floats between color changes. These motifs are deeply rooted in Scandinavian folklore and culture, making each piece a storytelling medium. 🧶 What About General Colorwork Knitting? Colorwork knitting is a broader term encompassing any technique that involves using multiple colors to create patterns, including Fair Isle and Nordic styles. It can also include methods like intarsia, mosaic, and slip-stitch knitting. W&C has curated a list of 50+ colorwork knitting patterns & knit resources for fair isle, Nordic, and stranded knitting! 😍 ➡️ Comment COLORWORK for this list to be sent to your inbox! 🧶❤️✨ #knitting #knitting_inspiration #knittingaddict #knitwithlove #colorworkknitting #fairisleknitting #nordicknitting #knittingismytherapy
