ZAMy biggest fear? Not being able to breathe 🫁
That moment underwater in big waves when everything goes quiet and I don’t know how long I’ll be down there I completely freak out... 😳
So I train it with @freediving_africa 💫
I’m learning to control my body when fear takes over by trusting that I can hold my breath far longer than I think and by keeping my mind calm. It’s all in my head.
Most people believe they need to breathe as soon as it gets uncomfortable. That’s not true. Your body sends warning signals long before you actually need air. Those shakes and contractions are just reflexes. Not danger.
Knowing that doesn’t remove my fear, but it gives me trust in my body. A reminder that it can handle more than my mind tells me.
The real skill is staying calm when everything in me wants to panic 🧠🤍
In one day I went from holding my breath for 20 seconds to over 2 minutes just by learning hoe to control my body. When my body stays calm, my mind makes better decisions. Underwater and in life and that’s the difference 🌊✨

JD is running the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon in support of #teamCORE. As the owner of the beloved Moonshadows in Malibu — which was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires last January — he has deep personal ties to the community and firsthand experience with the devastation many Angelenos faced.
JD added, “Everything I’ve heard about the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon is that the whole community comes together...Palisades, Altadena, all of the different cities of Los Angeles come together and really unite and I couldn’t think of a better reason to run, to raise money, and to give a voice to a cause."
“[The LA Fire were] right in our backyards. We know so many people who were affected,” Ann shared. “It was just second nature for us to get out there. We are really proud to have an incredible team that are from the community, that also lost their homes, and to be able to do something for them.”
