REAn office-sized N scale train layout in progress. 66” X 29” built to fit through a doorway.
My story: I started to build an N scale train layout when I was in middle school in the 1980’s. I lost interest in high school and sold all my trains to buy climbing gear. I recently saw an N scale starter set on sale and picked it up for my office at the school where I work. I set it up in a circle on my desk and that was all I was going to do with it. Weeks later a student and his aide stopped by to drop something off in my office—a student who I had not heard speak in the last three years. He looked at the train on my desk and exclaimed, “A train! A train! A TRAIN!” He was so excited that he would not stop talking. When he left, I decided it was time to build a layout and fulfill my own childhood dream. He stops by my office frequently to check it out with other students and will watch the train go around the track for as long as he has time. That’s model railroading at its finest!
