SULearning Docker? Here’s my direct advice: stop using the Docker Desktop UI.
While the GUI is a great tool for visualizing what's happening, it’s a crutch that won't prepare you for a real-world engineering role. In a professional environment, you will almost never use it for your day-to-day work.
Here’s why learning the command line (CLI) is non-negotiable:
Your Job is in the Scripts: All serious Docker work is done via scripts. You'll be working with CI/CD pipelines (like Jenkins or GitLab CI) where Docker commands are executed in a scripted environment.
You'll Work in Remote Environments: Most professional work happens on remote Linux servers. These environments are command-line only. There is no GUI to click on.
It Builds Deeper Knowledge: Learning the CLI forces you to learn the actual commands (docker ps, docker images, etc.) and understand the errors they produce. This foundational knowledge is critical for debugging.
The goal isn't just to use Docker; it's to understand how it works within a professional automation and deployment ecosystem. Mastering the command line is the only way to do that.
So, my advice is to get familiar with the terminal from day one. It might seem harder at first, but it's the skill that will actually get you hired.

🔹 STEP 1: CODE REVIEW
Developer raises a PR → Team reviews → Merges to main branch
🔹 STEP 2: AUTOMATED QUALITY GATES
GitHub Actions triggers instantly:
• Unit tests (Jest, PyTest)
• Integration tests (validate API contracts)
• SAST security scans (SonarQube, Snyk)
• Code quality checks (ESLint, Prettier)
❌ Any failure? Pipeline stops. No broken code reaches production.
🔹 STEP 3: CONTAINERIZATION
✅ All checks pass? Code gets packaged into a Docker container:

🔹 STEP 5: PROGRESSIVE PRODUCTION ROLLOUT
Kubernetes + Argo Rollouts take over:
Phase 1: 5% of users (canary pods)
• Monitor for 10 minutes
• Grafana tracks: error rate, p99 latency, CPU, memory
Phase 2: 25% if metrics healthy
• Run synthetic transactions
• Validate business KPIs
Phase 3: 50% → 100%
• Full rollout complete
