I’m not sure what the exact model number of this module is since it was included in a scrap lot of chips from Ebay. The part number is probably something like HMxxxS-512, where the xxx is the frequency that the CPU operates at. Depending on the exact model, the CPU can run from 125-166MHz, and have between 512-1024Kb L2 cache. I believe this model has 512Kb of L2 cache, made up of the four chips that look the same (128Kb each). - The smaller of the two center chips is the CPU, and the larger one is the cache controller. All six of the silicon chips are wirebonded and connected to a single, larger silicon chip, which is ultimately mounted onto a piece of aluminum, which helps to conduct the heat away. This larger silicon chip is wirebonded to a circuit board with pins set into it for external connection. The entire silicon assembly is covered with some type of goop. - This hyperSPARC CPU implements V8 of the SPARC architecture. If you aren’t familiar with SPARC (I definitely am not), SPARC is an acronym for Scalable Processor Architecture, and is a RISC ISA (Reduced Instruction Set Computing Instruction Set Architecture). SPARC was originally developed by Sun Microsystems in the late 1980’s.
