There’s a common misconception that calisthenics only builds bodyweight specific strength, but this couldn’t be further from the truth! I believe calisthenics training is the best way to overload your central nervous system (CNS). Your muscles are able to recruit more motor neurons to generate force - what this means is practice is that your muscles become extremely efficient. This is why you see very light guys who are able to lift weights that are typically reserved for the bigger units in the gym. I haven’t trained bench in months, and yet I’m able to bench 140KG on a whim, and bench 100kg for 12 reps. Now, I know that in the age of gymflation that these aren’t the most impressive lifts, but the fact I’m able to do them having only trained Calisthenics for months is surely a sign that intensive, structured bodyweight training is a fantastic way to get strong in every aspect. And do you want to know something funny? The reverse isn’t true! If you spam gym moves, you won’t get better at calisthenics, but if you train calisthenics, your gym lifts will improve… so you may as well train calisthenics so you can do cool skills AND shift some serious tin in the gym… feel free to debate what I’ve said in the comments!
