Movements like the leg press, hack squat, and leg extension allow you to add isolated volume to the legs without the same demand on balance and spinal loading that barbell work requires. After your squats or deadlifts (or whatever variations of these you are running), these machines become powerful accessories for reinforcing positions, building muscle, and accumulating quality work. Think of them as tools for refinement rather than replacement. Free weights teach the body to move. Machines isolate and help you strengthen the parts within that movement. Train the movement first.
