They say ADHD means we can’t work consistently. They’re right. I don’t work consistently—I work in hyperfocus. And when it hits, I build more in 2 days than I used to in 2 months. The trick isn’t fighting it. It’s designing around it. #adhd #adhdproductivity #adhdfounder — 👋 I’m Chris, ADHD-er & co-founder of @shimmer.care This is Day 2 of ADHD Girl Builds, where I post each day (ish) on practical tips & mindset shifts on how to build the ADHD way. ADHD is often misunderstood as having “no filter,” but that’s not what’s happening. The ADHD brain struggles with inhibition, the ability to pause before speaking or acting. Thoughts move faster than the brain’s braking system can handle. Strong emotions make this worse. Working memory makes it urgent. Dopamine makes speaking feel regulating. So the words come out raw, unedited, and honest before reflection arrives. That’s why ADHD people often replay conversations later and think, why did I say that. It’s not a personality flaw. It’s a timing problem in the nervous system. Person explaining why people with ADHD often speak without a filter, describing delayed inhibition, impulsivity, and emotional intensity as neurological causes. #ADHD, #AdultADHD, #Neurodivergent, #ADHDBrain, #Impulsivity, ExecutiveDysfunction, Neurodiversity, ADHDAwareness, MentalHealthEducation

Here’s what you need to understand about ADHD.👇🏼 When someone perceives their environment as UNSAFE (whether due to trauma, chaotic surroundings, or frequent disruptions), their nervous system often shifts into a heightened state of alertness, such as “fight-or-flight” mode. 🚨 In this state, the brain prioritizes scanning for threats over focused, sustained attention, as a survival mechanism. This can reduce the brain’s ability to concentrate on tasks that aren’t perceived as immediately essential to safety (like remembering to grab your phone before getting on the bus 😂). Additionally, for people who experience this lack of safety, the nervous system may be more prone to shifting between “hyperarousal” (anxious, restless, distracted) and “hypoarousal” (disconnected, low energy, “zoned out”) states, both of which interfere with focus. The constant shift between these states can feel like ADHD-type symptoms. 🌦️ In many cases, individuals who have experienced trauma or chronic stress can show symptoms that resemble ADHD, such as distractibility, impulsivity, or forgetfulness, because their nervous system is responding to a perceived lack of safety. THE MISSING INGREDIENT IN EACH CASE IS ✨SAFETY✨ Learning to establish safety: 1) in your own body/mind 2) in your relationships 3) and in your world will bring about a DRAMATIC shift in how your brain operates. ⚡️ Memory improves, focus improves, awareness improves - it’s crazy how much better the mind does when it is at ease. 🏖️ If you’re struggling to find that safety, use the link in my bio to schedule a FREE first session (just a few spots left) and let’s do the inner work that will both change your life and help you lose your phone less. 😂 🫶🏼Nate #lifecoach #lifecoaching #anxiety #trauma #adhd #adhdmemes

My brain: "Okay, we have a mission. One cup of tea. One notebook. One pen. This is going to be the most productive afternoon ever." ☕️✨ Also my brain 2 seconds later: "Wait, did I close the door? Why am I holding this water bottle? Where did the tea go? Did I actually sit down yet? Why am I back at the table? Why am I still holding the water bottle?!" 🤡 It’s like my working memory has the capacity of a goldfish on espresso. You walk into a room with a specific goal and by the time you cross the threshold, your brain has hit 'factory reset' and you’re just a SIM wandering around waiting for a new command. The loop is real, the chaos is constant, and yes, I’m probably going to find that tea cold on the counter in three hours. 🙃 Brands & ADHD-friendly companies, let’s collaborate 👀 #adhd #adhdmemes #adhdmeme #adhdbrain #adhdlife #adhdstruggles #adhdchaos #adhdfunny #adhdawareness #adhdmoment #adhdthings #adhdnights #adhdhyperfocus #adhdcommunication #executivefunction #workingmemory #adhdproblems

Why are ADHDers so clumsy? It’s not carelessness. ADHD impacts executive functions - including coordination, spatial awareness, and attention. 👉 Your brain is constantly jumping between stimuli, so your body can miss small details… like where the table actually is. How to reduce clumsiness with ADHD: • Slow down transitions (rushing = more accidents) • Keep spaces minimal (less objects = fewer collisions) • Use “pause before move” (1-second check before standing/walking) • Don’t multitask while moving (this is a big one) If this is you… you’re not broken. Your brain just works differently 💜 Follow us for more ADHD tips & comment ADHD and I’ll send you a free test. @unique_adhd @unique_adhd @unique_adhd #adhdawareness #adhd #adhdwomen #adhdproblems #adhdsupport

ADHD isn’t broken focus.
It’s a brain trying to survive information overload.👇 If you have ADHD, your brain doesn’t calmly go
“this matters” → keep
“this doesn’t” → discard. Instead, everything shows up at the same volume. The main idea.
A side note.
A random example.
A sentence that might be important. All equally loud. So highlighting isn’t really about emphasis.
It’s triage. Your brain going:
“Please… just let me remember something.” Here’s the part most people don’t understand:
ADHD is closely tied to limited working memory. Which creates this constant background fear while reading:
“If I don’t mark this now, it’s gone.” Highlighting also sneaks in a dopamine hit:
• a small physical action
• instant visual feedback
• the feeling of progress So you end up:
✔️ highlighting most of the page
✔️ feeling productive
✔️ finishing the chapter
❌ remembering almost nothing That’s not laziness.
That’s a coping strategy. If highlighting feels automatic, don’t try to stop it - contain it. What works better for ADHD brains: 1️⃣ The one-sentence rule
After a paragraph, write ONE sentence in your own words.
No highlighting until that sentence exists. 2️⃣ Question-based highlighting
Only mark text that answers:
“Why does this matter?”
“How would I explain this to someone else?” 3️⃣ Color = function (not vibes)

🔵 example
🔴 test-relevant If you can’t explain why it’s highlighted… don’t highlight it. But also don’t feel bad for highlighting a bit more..that’s just how your brain works 💙
