After a very long closure due to several deaths on the mountain, #mtbaldy has officially reopened! I took Register Ridge up for the first summit, it’s steep and lightly traveled. I went up the Ski Hut route on the second summit then took the infamous #devilsbackbonetrail back down. Due to heavy snow, followed by a heat wave, the melt was intense and eroded some of the trail. It’s a bit sketchier than it was before so watch your step when attempting this route. #mountbaldy #mountbaldysummit #trending Special thanks to @topex_hats for keeping me sunburn free :)

The two most popular trails to hike to the top of LA’s tallest mountain are the Baldy Bowl (Ski Hut) Trail and the Devils Backbone (pictured here). Personally, I prefer hiking up the ski hut trail as it’s a better workout — it’s almost 4 miles with almost 4k ft of elevation gain one way so it’s a good training hike too. But coming down the devils backbone trail is quite nice and frankly, it’s much easier on the knees.🥾 What’s your favorite trail to hike up Mt. Baldy?⛰️ Looking for an epic adventure to end the year? Just under 3hrs drive away from Las Vegas, this epic hike is considered the most dangerous in America. At least 17 people have died over the years on this hike. From my personal experience, it wasn’t that dangerous but it depends on the conditions and on the hiker. Knowing one’s limits is a must on this one. Best time to do this hike is for sunrise, and even sunset works but might be more crowded. Hike is 4.3 miles out and back with 1827 ft elevation gain. This hike does need a permit, apply thru recreation.gov ‘save’ the post to plan this epic hike & ‘share’ with your adventure buddies 🙌 ‘follow’ @mhplegacy for more cool hikes 🥾 📍Angels Landing, Zion Nat. If you’re new to Devil’s Bridge: it’s basically Sedona’s red-rock runway… and yes, the bridge is that iconic. 😌 Trail stats (most common route): 🥾 Start from Mescal Trailhead for ~4.0 miles round trip, about 500 ft of elevation gain, and roughly 2–3 hours depending on photo-line energy. It’s mostly chill until the final climb up to the bridge, which gets steep for a hot second.  How to avoid crowds (aka: keep your sanity + your shot): • Sunrise + weekdays = biggest “I can breathe” advantage.  • If you’re not a morning person, go late afternoon (midday is when the masses spawn).  • Parking fills fast, so consider the Sedona Shuttle (it serves trailheads with Devil’s Bridge access). Bonus: no circling like a vulture for a spot.  Quick local tip: expect a photo line on the bridge but please know that everyone gets their moment if people keep it moving. Save this for your next Sedona trip + send it to the friend who “doesn’t hike” but suddenly will for a natural rock bridge. 🧡🏜️
