DON’T EAT these foods before you run a marathon 🤮👀 Run Your First Marathon 002 ‼️ Remember to SAVE and SHARE this post if you’re thinking about running your first ever marathon ‼️ 1️⃣ Nut butter (or anything high in fat) I freakin’ love nut butter 🥹 But right before a marathon, it’s a hard no because it’s high in fat, which means it digests slowly and just sits in your stomach while you’re running, so I swap it out for jam or maple syrup instead. 2️⃣ Tonnes of veggies (or high-fibre foods) Fibre is amazing... just not right before you run 42.2km 😅 Things like kale, broccoli, salads, beans, lentils, wholegrain bread or pasta etc, can speed things up a bit too much once you start running, and we definitely don’t want that lol. It may also leave you feeling gassy and sometimes a bit bloated. 3️⃣ Anything new Honestly, marathon day is NOT the time to experiment. If you haven’t eaten it before a long run with zero issues, don’t eat it before your race, period. 4️⃣ Huge portions This is pretty self-explanatory, but big portions can leave you feeling heavy, sluggish, or nauseous once you get going. Stick to regular sized meals or a few more smaller ones. 5️⃣ Spicy food I can’t handle spice at the best of times lol, but on race day (when you’re nervous and have a bunch of adrenaline too) it’s definitely going to cause heartburn, indigestion and gut issues. 6️⃣ Sweeteners I’ll spare you the full rant here, but the biggest issue with sweeteners in this context is that they can genuinely wreck your gut, and when you’re running 42.2km, that’s the last thing you want. Be sure to check labels on things the night before and morning of your race... trust me, they’re in everything these days!! 7️⃣ Alcohol Alcohol dehydrates you, disrupts your sleep, and will no doubt tank your performance, so it’s just not worth it. 8️⃣ Energy drinks If you want caffeine before a race, a regular coffee you’re used to drinking in the morning is a much safer bet because energy drinks are often fizzy and full of caffeine... and I don’t think jitters and somtach cramps are part of your race plan 😅 Follow for episode 3 coming soon 😉

We CAN run marathons 🫶🏻 I can’t believe the journey to my first marathon is over. Here’s some tips that really helped me throughout the @brightonmarathonweekend : 😁 SMILE. @therunnerbeans I have you to thank for this one. It’s scientifically proven to make it easier. I did this throughout the whole thing and ngl it did work 🏃🏻‍♀️ I said out loud multiple times ‘’you only run your first marathon once’’ this helped me really take it all in and not moan in moments where it felt uncomfortable 👌 You don’t need to run the whole thing! I used run/walk intervals (making a whole vid on this) 💦 Stop at every water station for some hydration ❌ Don’t wear anything new on the day, I almost wore shorts I’d never worn because but talked myself out of it 🫶🏻 Get some anti-chafe stuff even if you never chafe. I had to get a friend to grab some for me mid run because my vest was rubbing on my arms. Never happened in training! ☀️ Wear suncream, it was only 13 degrees and my shoulders are still sunburnt 🙃 #myfirstmarathon #backofthepack #brightonmarathon
