Build power and contact strength with the campus board. Bonus points if you have @karma8a gear 🤙 If you've been consistently climbing in the V5 range and struggle with power and latching small holds, the campus board is a tool you might want to check out! Despite its name, some of the best ways to use this tool are actually with your feet on. In climbing, power is driven by our hips and legs, so using the footboard or jumping off the ground can help build full body power at higher speeds than if we stuck to strict campus moves. These are a few of my favorite options that can be done on their own or prior to your climbing session after a good warm-up. You don't need to do a lot either. Pick 1-2 options to start with, and do 1-3 sets with 2-4 reps per arm. Take rests that allow you to fully recover between attempts (usually 1-3 minutes). Try this once a week for 4-6 weeks. You can increase the distance between rungs or the number of reps as you go. Training for climbing doesn't have to be complicated or intimidating. If you're a bouldering beginner, I'd save this style of training till later down the road once your finger tendons have had time to strengthen and adapt to normal forces encountered on the wall. If you are under the age of 18, I do NOT recommend campus board training of any kind. The growth plates in your fingers are highly susceptible to injury. Don't forget to save this for later, send to a climbing friend, and follow for more climbing tips. #bouldering #learntoclimb #training #technique #climbing
