We all know I love my Middle Splits AND Pancake! So when you can’t choose which to train, just train both 🙌 There’s quite a lot of crossover between the two skills, so drills will transition between them. The hip abduction, external rotation, and adductor strength you build for one directly helps the other. Plus, training both keeps your training varied and hits your hips from different angles, middle splits with more active control, pancake with more compression and forward fold. Win-win all around! So I put it on my vision board and told @ashtangawellnesscentre that I wanted to get my middle split in the next 6 months. We pushed so hard that I got it in just 4 classes 🫢😳💃🏻 these little milestones make allllllll the pain so worth it!♥️

Laisha’s journey: From passive flexibility to active strength. Last year Laisha could do middle splits using blocks. The range was there, but the pelvis was unstable, and she couldn’t even lift her arms. Why does this happen in many flexible children? Because kids often have naturally lax ligaments, so they enter deep ranges easily. But if the hip stabilizers — especially gluteus medius and minimus — are not strong enough, the pelvis cannot stay stable. The body then seeks stability in the knee joint, leading to knee hyperextension and pelvic imbalance. From outside it looks like great flexibility, but internally the body is relying on passive structures instead of muscular support. This year, look at the difference. Laisha slides from standing directly into middle splits, without support, and holds the position with a stable pelvis. That means the body has developed active strength, control, and neuromuscular awareness. True progress in flexibility is not about going deeper. It’s about building strength and stability inside the range. Passive flexibility shows range. Active strength shows control. #Kidsyoga #middlesplits #splits #hipopening #kidsyoga
