A lot of people think learning a one arm handstand starts with just lifting your hand. The problem is that won’t teach you anything about balance. All it does is make you wait longer to learn the real control behind it.⏳ The key isn’t lifting, it’s shifting↔️. Shift your weight slowly until your balancing arm takes over, then start removing one finger at a time with the supporting hand. 5…4…3…2…1. Doing this consistently will help you feel the balance click way before you ever lift your hand fully.🔑 Fingertip support is just one piece of the puzzle🧩. To get comfortable in the position, do a lot of assisted one arm handstands using five fingertips and hold for as long as you can. Gradually use fewer fingers as you get stronger and more confident with the positioning. You should focus on holding one finger assisted one arm handstands for about 15–20 seconds before trying full attempts. Start with a straddle shape since it’s the most basic and important, but you can also practice diamond and full shapes once you’re ready.💯 There are also important technique cues to think about while training📝. Push through the balancing shoulder as much as possible, grip the ground with your fingers, control your lower half so it doesn’t twist, and point your toes. Close handstand grip drills like diamond handstands or iguana handstands are great to build the same type of balance using two hands.💪🏽 One arm handstand takes time, focus, and patience. The problem with this method is that 99% of the time you’re positioning your body in a very incorrect way compared to real OAHS. It is much to better to practice free-standing attempts with fingers assistance 🖐️ ⠀ 2nd tip explained: when you’re doing only “strong” side attempts — your working muscles are getting tired way faster and you can’t keep training OAHS. Use your weak side every 3-5 attempts and you’ll progress much faster on your strong side 💪 ⠀ 3rd tip explained: while trying to balance — try not only to push your shoulder down but also to the opposite direction of your lean. It’s going to help you a lot with your OAHS holds 📈
